I'm not sure if it shows up in the shows up in the Complete Slow Cooker Collection sticky yet - but I know we've had this question raised before and generally the answer was yes, veggies can benefit from one too. Largely because of the convenience of one pot cooking and having it all ready for you when you get home from work.

  • Hi Squeaky (Happy New Year!)

Yes, the idea of having cooking smells greet me when I get home from work is VERY appealing, I have to say! Something I need to give more thought, I think. certainly I've read that pulses come out lovely and tender, which is tempting, too!

    I've upgraded!!! :j :j

The Hinari SC I bought just before Christmas was bought in haste as I'd found an MSE code and used it to get one - didn't check the size - doh!!! It is a 1.5l and just a bit too small for me. Good for one person , or two people if you do the potatoes etc separately (or have small appetites - unlike the two of us :rotfl: )

Anyway, I took delivery today of a 3.5l Hinari - again very cheap with an MSE code, but now I'm not sure what to do with the other one. Keep it ? Ebay it? Wish I had friends who did homemade wine or grew veggies as I'd happily swap it for that!!!!

My new spangly luvverly 3.5l one should be gently cooking chicken and potato curry as I type .

I'm new to MoneySaving Old Style and have been tempted to buy a slow cooker by all the praise this kitchen gadget has been given. Tried to read this whole thread but only made it to page 18 as I think got an idea of things by then

I've decided to go for a Morphy Richards one but have the age old debate between the 3.5 one and the 6.5 one. I live a alone but want to cook to freeze stuff. Having said that bear in mind that I dont have a lot of freezer space so thinking that maybe the 3.5 one will be alright for my needs. Is it right that you will get about 4 meals out of the 3.5 model? Alternatively I was considering the Tefal 3-in-1 that has been discussed as this also incorporates a steamer which I dont have either and this would be space saving

I'm sure there are a lot of people that have been in the same shoes as me and wondered if they could tell me how they came up with their decision. Thanks in advance and thanks for all who have posted here before to help me narrow it all down to just 3! ;)

gambit I bought the smaller MR SC and it is perfect for a good meal for two and enough for another meal. It is an excellent SC

I had the tefal 3 in 1 but didn`t like it (my daughter now has it) I think it was 650watts and wasn`t flexible re the heat

I have a cheap and cheerful three litre SC and I'd agree that if you're doing a casserole with all your veggies in so will not be doing any on the side it is still plenty for two meals and a third for the freezer. And that's generous portions.

If you are doing curry/chilli/spag bol etc then you can easily get four generous portions out since you can pad with rice or pasta.

Thanks very much kittie and squeaky! Think I will opt for the 3.5 one and see how I go with it.

Had a look around and found it cheapest in Robert Dyas so will try to get it there tomorrow. They seem to have a lot of slow cookers there too.

Click here to see them all

Hopefullly this will help anyone else looking for one at the mo. If anyone has found it cheaper elsewhere then let me know...
