For Cookworks, read crap, the brand is cheap and nasty, youre lucky if it lasts, usually just beyond its guarantee time.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

I'd have to disagree with this comment.
I have a few things from the Cookworks brand and they've all been brilliant. I'd had my sandwich toaster for approximately 5 years and it's fine (although I don't use it much anymore). My kettle is about 3 years old and is used very regularly and i've never had a problem with it.
I also have a Cookworks slow cooker which again, i've had for about 3 years with no problems and that's used a lot in the winter.
In answer to the original question, mine is oval shaped and has had all sorts in it, so i'd personally go for oval as it gives you more choice.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

I can only go on my own experience, 2 items bought, both broke about 14months old.
Glad to hear your stories though.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Thanks for the comments so far. Read the reviews on the Argos site and the general opinion seemed to be that the Cookworks is as good as any other. Had an Anthony Worrall Thompson one which I really didn't like so I thought it wouldn't do any harm to try a cheapie this time.
Had thought the oval may be more versatile so will probably go with that. Thanks again.0 -
I also disagree with the Cookworks comment, I've got a few bits and pieces myself including a cheapo stick blender that have seen a lot of use and are still going strong.
In fact at work we had a jug blender that my boss picked up on sale for next to nothing, it got very heavy daily use and despite not being intended for professional kitchens and clumsy chefs who like to drop stuff, we got a couple of years out of it.0 -
We have a cookworks microwave, toaster, kettle and sandwich toaster in the kitchen in work. They're used by everyone on the floor (approx. 100 people) of our office and have been in use for at least 3 years now and still going strong.
I have an oval shaped slow cooker. Cheapie one from Tesco (I paid about £9) and it does the job just fine.0 -

I love my 6.5 litre Cookworks slow cooker. I bought it to replace a Lakelands 3.5 L that did me well but I found was 'too slow'. I can come in from a night shift and prepare a meal in the Cookworks sc that is ready for an early evening meal within about 6 - 8 hours on low.
It is clear that price is not the indication of a good sc.0 -
I've merged this with an existing thread which discusses which slow cooker and why.
There is also a previous thread on the cookworks SC which may have some discussion on its pros and cons.
thanks
ZipA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
