M & S Aaaaaaaaarrrrrrgh

We went to our local M&S a couple of days ago and my OH found a bra she liked, only one in her size, bought it, liked it, went back a few days later to buy a couple more, different colours, same size.
None on the shelf so went to the order desk to be told "we don`t order clothes, only food" Had a rant and was told we can order on-line.
Tried to order online but there is a £3.50 postage charge! As the bra costs £8 this is a huge markup!
There, had my rant!

I've ordered clothing before too, and in our store the Christmas turkeys and clothing is all done at the same desk. If there are separate desks, surely the assistant would have directed the op?

Have to say, M&S have definitely slid in the CS department - recently I had a gift card and no-one knew how to use it! The bits of differing information they all had just highlighted how rubbish/non-existent their training was.

Knightstyle, I would ask again,or ring in - you'll most probably get a different reply.

  • I just bought a bra for my daughter and the sales assistant was happy to order two more in different colours. I could pick them up from any branch or have them posted. They phoned me to tell me they had arrived after about four days. No problems

Since when did it become wrong for shops to make money on their goods?

Do you think the courier offers a free service to them? My guess is it possibly costs more than £3.50 for M&S to send it to you but they're absorbing a little of the cost.

I think the point is that the OP was happy to buy in store, and didn't want to pay extra for delivery if the store could order in the same product, but this option was not offered to them, despite being pretty common practice amongst most stores. Definitely in the past with M and S they would always call a nearby store to see if they could send some over and as they have people travelling between stores all the time it would cost them much less than the standard internet delivery prices.
  • you could phone the store and ask to be put through to correct desk saving parking, driving etc.
