I understand the security issue - though they accept online debit card payments. It is just credit cards that have to be via the phone.

There is no security issue in stating that there is a percentage fee, so I don't see why they don't mention it - it could just make we waste a phone call if there is a charge as for me there is no incentive to offset the charge.

With effect of this month, the Highland Council is charging 2% on online credit card payments.

Certain LA's charge a percentage for using CC's, some don't take them and some take them for free. This is down to each LA to determine what they want to do - you tend to notice the smaller councils don't charge (like a district council) as they are properly funded, its when you talk larger ones that they milk people such as Edinburgh/London.

However, any payment made to a LA is treated as a purchase. It is not a cash payment is it? same as if you rung british gas and paid this with card, you're making a purchase to the card but paying a bill to the retailer/supplier....

they were chasing me for arrears on my 25% discount as my OH was a student (so I did NOT owe them anything!!) and they have just given planning permission for a nursery across the road from me. Up a single lane cul de sac. Great.

yes there were 14 objections from most of the residents of our road and we didn't even get a meeting.

guaranteed if you built a porch without asking neighbours then you'd be objected against but yet again, one rule for the powers and another for us lot..... :mad:
