Having problems with the "free" caller display and using Primus CPS. Have a BT account, prefix GB and ever since I joined Primus I have been charged for Caller Display. Initially went all round the houses at BT without success then contacted Ben Verwaayen thanks to this forum. Wheels set in motion and got refunded.
However, every month is the same,
Charges for Calling Feature Pack (1) £1.75 appears on my bill, I contact Ben's office, get refunded etc..
I do make a few calls each month via BT but in light of BTs new pricing would it be as well ditching Primus, going back to BT and just keeping 18185 going? Not worried about 1 year rolling contract etc. as don't intend leaving BT (went llu talktalk - never again).

It may be Yes, but I am holding out for a bit to see what happens.
You get charged if you do not make 2 chargable calls per month or 6 per quarter.
But maybe having the WLR3 billing system it has made an error.0 -
You do need to sign up specifically for BT Privacy at Home have you done this.

From what you say your be better off with BT unless you make lots of mobile calls.0 -

NEGATIVE - if you have Penny Mobile 2, you'd lose the capped 20p rate for a call to a UK mobile of up to 20 minutes;
NEGATIVE - your free evening and weekend UK 01/02/03 calls would be limited to 60 minutes instead of 90 minutes.
POSITIVE - no need to remember to make 2 calls per month with the 1280 prefix (not that changing back to BT would miraculously solve your Caller Display problem - I suspect the GB account number and BT's computer system is the cause of that).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Signed up as soon as we got new landline in. All worked fine with billing/caller ID until we joined Primus. As soon as that kicked in BTs system assumed we wouldn't be making any calls via BT and started charging. I did query this at the time which resulted in there being 14 cancellations and 13 orders for caller id on my line - net result no charges but also no caller id (got it back eventually).
Not making many mobile calls and really don't think have made any use of the Penny Mobile add-on since we got it - not me that makes mobile calls as a rule, kids now chat via x-box online or whatever it is they do.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
Should have looked into this beforehand but Primus contract is 18 months so another 12 to go, just have to persevere with the caller id conundrum til then.
Thanks for the info anyhow.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -

The Primus system most people here use has no contract and we keep the BT line rental with BT. Maybe changing provider you lose the caller display etc.

Saver Option 2
No, just me being an idiot and reading the wrong T&Cs for Primus CPS and not Saver Option 2.
Thanks for that, will do the deed now and see if the problem goes away without CPS.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -

If it's only calls going via Primus and line rental with BT, then there's no 18 month contract.
Surprised that switching calls affected Caller Display. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
From what the guy at BT told me the new system assumes that because I had a CPS provider I would not be making calls via BT ergo won't qualify for free caller display.
As soon as they ammended my account to remove the charges it also removed caller display. As soon as they then tried to re-instate caller display it defaulted to charging me and so on.
Also what I can see on my online account is the same as the helpdesk at BT can see BUT it's not what the real status of my line is at the exchange.
"not active according to us so must be getting free phone" was said to my contact at Ben's office - he had my account details in front of him so knew summat was up.
Never mind, least the phone works which it certainly didn't with T*lkT*lk.“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0 -
Just another thought, I'm being billed in advance for this Calling Feature Pack (1) £1.75 , 18th Feb - 17th March.
How does that square with "Customers who are billed monthly must make at least two chargeable calls with BT in that month" before it's free?
Or is my account just borked?“I look like Spiderman at a funeral”~ Karl Pilkington0
