If you gas bill is £70 for one month and thats not for heating thats quite high, I assume you cook with that, do you use gas for anything else?

I also monitor my usage monthly and put the figures in a spreadsheet that way I know each month and year what my usage is

Everyone should monitor there usage its a worry get a large unexpected bill at least if you know what usage that month is you can prepare for it

My gas bill for end of Dec 2010 until end of Jan was £82 for GHC and gas cooker

First thing is to check your meter, does it show "cu ft" or "cu m" on the dial. Then check your bill and check that it is the same (for a quick check divide your kWh by units used, around 11 is metric or 32 is imperial). Also check your meter number against the bill. Are you in a house or a flat ?
  • hi Savemoney, the £70 DD p/m is just for gas. all i am using gas for is to cook dinner of an evening and heat water for showers/clean dishes. I have a brand new vaillant combi boiler which i am going to pay to have checked over, just in case. I will take on board ur advive about the spreadsheet though; sounds like a very good idea.

Hi molerat - will defo check this out too to makesure the meter and bill matches up. i live in a 3 bed semi. cant have cavity wall cos its solid brick built but do have the correct amount of loft insulation. i am literally at my wits end with this!
