So Is anybody going to let us all in on the location ...Not really a heads up till we know where to avoid .
You didn't read the other thread then?

I think there is far less than 1 litre between engine and fuel tank, at the most it would be 1/2 litre. If there is a small reservoir attached to the fuel pump (in the tank) It could go up to 1 litre, but these reservoirs are not fitted to all cars. I think if dodgy fuel was in there it would become apparent before 3 miles.

So how come it is only ever the Supermarkets that sell contaminated fuel then?

thanks for all of the replies.

I bought the fuel in Swindon, if that's any help.

I rang Tescos who said they were aware of a problem with the diesel, but not unleaded. They are going to investigate.

The supermarkets are far from the cheapest where I live. Petrol was cheaper in rural North Wales last weekend than the supermarkets round here. Mind you, I did see a 107p for normal unleaded at a Shell yesterday. The only exception to the supermarkets is Waitrose Cheltenham who have been the cheapest in a 50 mile radius for a few weeks now, at 100.9p

??? Doesn't address my point at all.

So because there are more Supermarket's in your area, and they sell more fuel, that makes it OK for them to sell contaminated fuel.

Cannot see the logic in that.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, HOW MANY MORE TIMES...

ITS ALL SUPPLIED FROM THE SAME REFINERIES.

& it is a TOTALLY different selection of additives, which will go into the tanker at the distribution depot, before it makes it's way to whichever reatailers filling station.

That's why Shell & Texaco do have a different end product, going into your vehicle!

& Shell give the best price (in Luton) & loyalty scheme. Combine it with a Shell credit card & it = approx 4% discount on each litre.

So well worth avoiding the supermarkets, I think!

My friend drives a Morrisons Tanker. He fills up at EXACTLY THE SAME Humber refineries as Tesco, Asda, Esso etc. He then delivers straight to the petrol stations. He DOES NOT ADD ADDITIVES, stop at Go or collect £200.

But as per my next posting they are added by the refinary depending on which retailer the petrol is for.

Perhaps he meant because they sell more, they empty their tanks quicker, and any problem batch of fuel is likely to hit the supermarkets first.

The additives are 'ordered' by the driver, as his tanker is loaded.

This will apply ONLY for the retailer, which requires them - so Shell fuel will have Shell additives, whereas the Morrisons fuel won't.
