Oh, I see, that figure of £270 does not mean in any way a tax free allowance. Yes correct, up to £270 you do have to use that particular form.

    From this
    Revenue & Customs Link

Q: Are import duties and import VAT always payable?
A: No, Customs duty is waived if the amount of duty is less than £7.

    and then:

Import VAT is not payable on ...goods purchased over the internet with an intrinsic value not exceeding £18 ...and gifts with a value not exceeding £36...

Hi, i have bought 2 apple 16gb iphones from america for £130 each. However they retail over here at £330 so i was wondering if i would have to pay import tax and VAT on the price i payed for the item or for the value of the item in the UK? Also how much ruffly would i have to pay? And if i say the item is only worth £30 and mark it as a gift in order to try and aviod any taxes, if they find out the item is worth much more than the price i have quoted it at will there be any fines?
    Please help, thanks
