Hi, sorry to butt in here but I have a question, I just switched to AOL broadband with the AOL talk unlimited package so all my calls are free. Does this mean I can't qualify for free caller I.D. from B.T. as I won't be making any chargeable calls?

    All your 01, 02 & 03 calls are free. 05, 07, 08, and 09 calls are chargeable.

Anyway, the answer to your question is yes.

Use the 1280 prefix to make the necessary calls via BT.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

So I can make chargeable calls to 05, 07, 08 and 09 which means I can qualify for free caller I.D.
Therefore the answer to my question would be No

That's not what I meant at all.

What I was trying to point out to you was that you are NOT getting all your calls free from AOL (05, 07, 08, 09 and 00 calls are not included in the £7.49/month AOL Talk Unlimited package).
Talk Unlimited includes all local and national calls to UK landline numbers (starting 01 and 02) – 24 hours a day with no limit on how long you talk
To qualify for BT's free Caller Display, you need to use the 1280 prefix to send the requisite numbers of calls on the BT network.

    Oh I see, Thanks.
What is this 1280 prefix then and how does it work? will it interfer with my AOL talk?

1280 is the CPS override code to send calls via BT.

It's probably easiest explained by reading one of my old posts about what opting for a CPS calls provider like AOL Talk means.
