I have emailed 18185 countless times asking why the increase in charges, but like the others, 18185 send an automated message saying they have received the query but i never hear any more from them. At 6 pence each, they are working out more expensive than my virgin to virgin text. Think they are ripping off but cant work out why some people get charged 1p and others 6p. Any other advise from people apart from just giving up with the company?0

I pay my bills with them by credit card. If you do the same, then you could ask the CC company to do a chargeback since the price of the service is not that to which you agreed. I suspect that their management would respond if hit in the place where it hurts most: the bank balance.0 -
I recently registered with 18185 after referral from this site. During the first 3 weeks as was charged 1p per text as advertised. It has now increased to a massive 6p per text. They will not respond to my emails. If you are using it for texting check your currenet invoice immediately.0

And what was you sending device - a computer, a landline or a mobile?
They only charge 1p to text from a computer logged into your account.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

You can only send texts via 18185 from your computer. I have read on other sites about this overcharging as well as MSe, although i have not personally experienced it.0 -
They state on their rates page at:
http://www.18185.co.uk/sms.phpWe reserve the right after a certain amount of SMS (FUP) to start charging sms for the default rate.
Not really that helpful, though since it doesn't really define what 'a certain amount' or what the 'default rate' is."...And I gave that man directions, even though I didn't know the way, 'cause that's the kind of guy I am this week." -- Homer Simpson0 -
Can someone who is using 18185 for sending text messages check their bill on the 18185 website and see if they are being charged 6p a text ! I send texts to India and Singapore and they are coming up as 6p a text .I have 333 text messages that they have worked out to be £12.58 ! It should be £3.33 at 1p a text .Or am i missing something ?
Ok just found this little message on the bottom of the page..... We reserve the right after a certain amount of (SMS) to start charging sms for the default rate (FUP)
And what is the "certain amount " they then start charging 6p a text ! they dont say and dont answer emails either
