I've never been on the electoral roll.
Never had any credit problems, credit cards, mortgages, loans, all not a problem.
Don't know what the fuss is about.
For someone with a good amount of good stuff in their credit file it probably makes no difference. There was a time when the council didn't report it, so if you are old enough then it wouldn't have been a problem when you started.
The lenders like knowing that an address is permanent enough that you register to vote there and national/local government like to use credit files to crack down on benefit/single person discount fraud.
  • You don't need to be on the electoral roll to get credit or a mortgage. I've arranged mortgages for plenty of UK resident clients of non-EU origion who can't register. They can have bank accounts, credit cards, loans, etc just like everyone else.
