Help please with dried fruit and nuts

Hi,
For the dried figs,I love eating them just as they are,but maybe that's not your cup of tea.Dried figs are lovely soaked in cold tea for a few days, makes them lovely and syrupy.I then eat them with a natural yoghurt.I cut up the figs first though and keep them in the fridge.Works well with dried prunes too.
As for the other dried fruits, you could add them tto a muesli type cereal,or make your own, using porridge oats,soya/corn flakes, spelt, raisins etc.
HTH.
PS The cake sounds nice.0 -
Could you separate the fruit and nuts and make a fruit cake/chutney with the fruit then a nut butter with the nuts if you like them? Almond butter is lovely, peanut butter is nice so I don't see why mixed nut butter wouldn't be (someone might jump in and tell me why!) All you'd need to do is blend the nuts with some veg oil and a little salt (optional)
Also if the salts are unappealing because they are too plain, you could re-roast them with some honey/sugar and spices to serve to guests or have in lunch boxes.0 -

She has half the usual portions on her plates and will now eat most of what is given to her. There are so far 6 items on her list of do-not-likes. So, thankyou to everyone who offered suggestions and advice.

This is GREAT NEWS! I am so pleased for you
I bet your relationship is benefitting from it too
On a note about the figs/nuts/dried fruit why would you buy things like that??? LOL they would be on my 'do not like list'
However nuts do go very well inside most sponge cakes, as would the figs. The dried fruit... no idea sorry xWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. Thanks JG
Can I just say again what an absolute inspiration you are to me - just reading some of your posts on another thread has spurred me on again after a bit of a wobbly day yesterday (feeling sorry for myself). DD and I are getting along better than I ever could have imagined. Every mealtime is no longer a battle and she's not scared to try new foods any more. Yay! She's eaten things this past fortnight that I never would have imagined her eating at all.
The dried fruit came as part of a hamper we were given a couple of months ago - not something I'd choose for myself either, but dd and I are going to do some baking today to get it used up.Ninja Saving Turtle0 -
Wannabe Just be careful not to become too much like me... DH says I have OCPD and if you look it up there is reference to Freud... who used to call it 'anal retentive disorder'!!!
On a serious note though I am glad to be inspiring someone, the wonderful people on this website inspired me to go one step further... and thanks to them I got through redundancy, multiple miscarriages and illness during my pregnancy... Which resulted in me giving up work early! Also before I joined becomming a SAHM was a dream... and now it's a reality, and we are able to afford it (just)!
I am so pleased things are getting better with your daughter... enjoy bakingWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. It's definitely time to start baking. I've sat here on my bum doing nothing for a good couple of hours now.
Thanks people. I'm making fig cake, flapjacks and considering easy fruit cake. Yes, there's that much fruit.Ninja Saving Turtle0
