Think that this has been covered before, you wont be allowed to board an aircraft in Amsterdam with liquids purchased outside of their duty free(unless you are in transit lounge?).

It s the same as any trip outside the EU, you can return to the Uk with 200 cigs & 1 litre Spirits, etc
Transiting through Amsterdam will make no difference you only clear customs if you are entering the country, not transiting.
Is that what you are asking or do you live in Geneva? In Which case I don't know the Answer.
  • I have just retd from the Caribbean and had a similar problem in that our flight was delayed and we had to spend the night in a hotel having already purchased our
duty free we were told we would need to put it in our suitcases and if no room - tough as we would not be allowed through the next day if we were carrying it.

  • the same thing happened to me just over a year ago when I flew to australia. I bought 3 bottles of spirits and 600 fags (I was going for 3 weeks and my relations like to party) I had to connect at Frankfurt where they took away all my booze. Let me keep the fags though. Mind you when I got to Oz I had to pay duty on them. As I have not been anywhere much for years, except Denmark to visit my son I hadn#t bought any duty free. I didn't know about the tamper proof bags either. I was most annoyed with the duty free shop at Birmingham airport. I told them where I was going and how and asked if it would be ok and they said yes. After moaning for a few hours to myself. I gave it up as a lesson learned. Don't buy duty free.

As mentioned above, a complaint to the Birmingham duty-free shop should lead to a refund.

Geneva (Switzerland) has roughly the same allowances as the UK....So you,ll be able to buy: 200 cigarettes, 1 litre of booze etc etc
Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean Easyjet aren't out to get me

sorry to hijack but I have a similar question - travelling back from USA to UK via Amsterdam, I am assuming I can buy duty paid cigarettes in Amsterdam ok (to top up the 200 cigs from the US) is this ok?

Yes.... 100% OK, however, customs work on the basis of the burden of proof being on the person carrying the goods, so just make sure you retain your receipt for the ciggies you buy at Schiphol..... And if you want pricing, the usual suspects (L+B, B+H, Marlboro) will be approx £14 a carton in the Duty Free in the USA and £32 Duty paid at Schiphol. :)

Another warning: This also happens when leaving cruise ships and flying home. We bought duty frees on board ship which were given to us on our last night on board in Sydney. Then went to fly home to UK and booze was taken off us at Sydney airport despite still being security wrapped in boxes.

It was not only extremely annoying and embarrassing but the attitude of them was very demeaning; they treated us like children who should know better.
