My daughter and her mates are going to a music festival in Sheffield arena in May. We're staying over. I'm the chauffeur! Not sure what to do, apart from visit Meadowhall.
Any suggestions? I quite like museums / exhibitions / old buildings etc, as long as they are cheap or free!!
thanks

I suggest you look on this website http://www.shef.ac.uk/city/ because I was going to recommend several places, only to find they are either being renovated or are shut because of the floods. If you check the website yourself, you'll be able to find what's open in May when you are visiting.
Sorry not to be more help.0 -
go to the swimming baths ?0

Come to Nottingham for the day?! xGone ... or have I?0

Go to the Frog & Parrot and drink a couple of pints of "Roger And Out" then the rest of your itinerary won't need any planning. Actually, I'm serious, the pub serves some really nice beer.0

Have a visit to Chesterfield which has a large market (on weekends) and the famous "crooked spire". It's not far from Sheffield and can get there on bus / train or drive.**BERTIE**Did you Know: It costs more than £325,000 a day to run the lifeboat service? (with no government funding) Please donate to the RNLI0

If I had the day free in Sheffield I would do this:
1. Millennium Gallery and Graves Gallery (in town-free)
2. Or Showroom (Art house cinema in town)
3. Number One Chinese Buffet is good for food(opposite Ponds Forge Swimming baths)
4. Western Park Museum (near the University-free)
5. Ending with a visit to Spa 1877 for a relaxing afternoon: http://www.spa1877.com/0 -

Ok just wrote an epic reply but lost it somehow...
In brief!
As an addendum to Myrtle's excellent suggestions...
Peak District
Castleton
Bakewell
Ecclesall Road
Botanical Gardens
Kelham Island Industrial Museum
All well worth a look and easily googled for info.
Defo recommend the spa though ~awesome and quite cheap.
Food Wise -West Street has a great selection of restaurants, all reasonably priced. Pizza Volante (or Flying Pizza -keeps changing it's sign!) usually gets my business!
Have fun, Sheffield's Awesome.0
