    Just a minute here,

I called the outside lane the fast lane? OK, I did that because like it or not thats how most people view it. I disagree, it's quite often the slow lane today, but what the heck.

The next poster took exception to that and had the nerve to have a dig at my driving skills on air. Did I say I panicked, no.

What should I do? nothing? sorry, thats not me.

We all have the right of reply on here and the right not to have abuse thrown or implied, but by implying that I couldn't drive or should not be on the road is like showing the red rag to the bull.

Have to say I agree with cyclonebri. I often call it the"fast lane" as the cars in that lane tend to go "faster". It doesn't imply any condoning of speeding. It is a figure of speech brought about by the fact that slower vehicles keep to the left on British roads. Lots of people call it that and perhaps people shouldn't be quite so precious about it. Surely its how people drive in "the righthand lane" which counts - not what they call it?

I also agree that Police can cause panic. I've witnessed emergency vehicles stonking down the road only to find certain types of individuals who take the "rabbit in headlights" approach and freeze. Not great if you are in the fast/overtaking lane.

Nope, if a motor way is otherwise empty, and you are driving at the max 70mph, you should be in the left hand lane, the other lane/ lanes are only to be used for overtaking.

Nowhere in the Highway Code does it mention a " fast lane ".

You are right, if a motorway is empty, etc. Isn't that why I said "slower vehicles keep to the left on British roads". Clearly if you are the only car then it makes sense that you would keep to the left! Sorry for not expressly stating this but thought it was pretty obvious!

I couldn't give a monkeys what the Highway Code says. Its a commonly used term and I stand by the point that calling it a "fast lane" doesn't mean to say that you speed in it. Stop being so darned sensitive!
