Problems with freeview box

Since moving into my new house I have had so many problems with my freeview box. I can't tune it in successfuly to pick up all channels. For example BBC1, 2 and ITV are so pixelated it is unwatchable. I have tried retuning to no avail - sometimes I lose more channels. I have bought a new one thinking that it could be the box but it is the same. I have had a new digital aerial and cables etc so I know it's not that. The TV guy who fitted the new aerial said that the area I now live is a really strong signal.

Any ideas. The freeview box I have is a Goodmans GDB9.

Goodmans are not known for their quality, do you know anyone with a different make of freeview box you can try?

I had the same problem & found moving the box & tv to another part of the room solved it. Is that something you could perhaps try?

My previous freeview box was a Sagem and this was the same. This was the reason I bought a new one as I thought that my Sagem was no good.

With regards to moving my TV, unfortunately this is a no go as it is fixed in one place - it's a 42" Plasma

  • freeview boxes dont like heat, if it is sandwiched between a recorder and a dvd player that could be a prob, make sure its ventilated properly, i had a sagem go on me a couple weeks ago, same prob pixalating and that was on top of an old crt portable, the tv heat caused the breakdown.

  • worth looking in the menu for set-up or installation and checking the signal strength.
  • Have a look here for a few tips - http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/reception.html

  • Get the T.V man back and ask him to put a signal strength meter on the coaxal cable that goes in the back of the digi-box and make sure you see the signal strength yourself, that will at least rule him out, it seems strange that both boxes are doing the same. Dont rely on a fitters word, that its not him, the last thing he wants to do is clamber in your loft or on your roof for nothing.

Thats the problem, no such thing as a digital aerial
  • mm, ok the freeview box is sat on top of my dvd player peeking through the gap between my dvd player and the tv so that could be it. The signal strength on the installtion bit is ok to. I will try moving it down on the next shelf and re-tune it.

  • Right now moved the freeview box and re-tuned. I can now pick up the bbc channels but the signal strength is only 10% compaired to others (E4) which is 70%, any ideas.
