Have you tried a quote from "Pay as you drive" schemes? It might be viable if he doesn't drive late at night over the weekend...Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0

No he does drive late at night. Was quite unnerving at first but used to it now.0

quote..Anyone know of a company that charges less than £2500 per year for a 19 year old? Most quote £2500 - £5600  . Last year he paid £2800.
if last year he paid £2800 and you have had a quote this time for £2500 then the policy has gone down and not up

Thats true but that cover is worthless as they are not offering anything extra that we would expect and it was only so low because we put in £1500 as excess. Which is rediculous and we will not consider that offer.0 -

Would that matter?
It certainly did for a mate of mine when an Italian lorry used his Lotus to improve the lorry's stopping distance. In fact, I think the claim is still not resolved - it certainly wasn't at renewal time and he had to pay more as a result. Can't remember if he's supposed to get it back or not, but I think he is once his NCB is reinstated.UK007BullDog wrote: »If he had no claims cover would that have helped?
I assume you mean protected no claims? I think most companies only offer that once you've built up a few years NCB. Doesn't stop them from bumping up the cost of the renewal either AFAIK, you just keep your "x years NCB" but will have to disclose any claims anyway.UK007BullDog wrote: »Would it make it cheaper if I or hubby went on the car as well? It made no difference last year.
I assume that's with your son as the owner/main driver and yourself as an additional driver? This may make a difference but I think it very much depends on the insurance company.
I think the best way forward is to try and get the claim resolved ASAP.0 -
Its a 1.4 Sport Ibiza.
is it the cupra ibiza?

Nope the bog standard 2 door hatchback 2 years old Ibiza model.
Well, been trawling the net and spoken to brokers which all could not resolve the issue of cost. Good thing is that we got a letter from the solicitor today stating the other drivers consent to liability, which means he can get his NCB back.
But then I thought lets try the big boys out there and went to Norwich Union, added my hubby as another named driver along side son and the quote went down to a madly fantastic £1200 :T  :T
So applied and fingers crossed that he will get it.
As for the tip regarding the extra driving done in company van will not be taken into account unless the insurance gets underwritten manually.
So yes, a lot happier today.0 -
I would try looking to replace the car with a new one that comes with a free insurance deal. It worked out cheaper for my sister to buy a new car each year with free insurance and take the depreciation than it was to pay the stupidly expensie insurance premiums.
I have 4 years NCD and still pay just over £1k with out NCD they wanted £1800 and Im 29.0
