The new job is brilliant - it couldn't be more different than the previous one. Even with the commuting (which on a bad day can be up to 4 hours there and back) it is less stressful and I enjoy going there.

I'm not being too strict at the moment as time is tight and there is enough going on. Once we move we can review everything properly. Luckily OH has cancelled insurances on his loan reducing the monthly payment by £120!!! I'm still waiting to hear about mine. OH also has a promotion which kicks in in August, and should have some nice commissions before then. So with that and the reduction in petrol we should be in a pretty good position by Sept.

Hope you are all doing well and having some fun.

Quick update, commuting is still hell, but only 2 weeks to go. We are moving soon so a lot of money needed for that, but it does mean the travelling costs will be slashed!

Have now paid off more than £7K since Feb, so almost 36% of the £20K I want to get rid of by Xmas. Some good months to come, so I think I can make a real dent in the debt soon.

I'll admit it now, I have been a total moron. I have spent most of my life being regarded as a sensible person, but in reality chaos lurks just beneath the surface.

Over the years I have been hopeless with money: missing payments, failing to pay bills on time or at all, 'prioritising' pleasure over important payments, being talked into spending more than I know I should. This has led to a crappy credit score, being turned down for credit, letters from DCAs etc. Parents have bailed us (I include OH here, he is just as bad) out to an extent that I am hideously embarrassed about. :o

So, the time has come to face up to this mess and actually sort it out. I have told OH this, and he is happy to let me get on with it - part of the problem really, but he is never going to change so I will have to do it.

My first step has been to work out our level of debt - I think I have noted everything , but because my filing system is basically a huge box, and this has been going on for years, it might have to be amended. The total is... £67967.60  !!!

Most of that is being dealt with through monthly payments and is up to date, although I am painfully aware that it is like a sword of Damocles just waiting for something unexpected to happen. We have no savings so this really worries me. There is £16557.67 of what I call 'eek' debt - the stuff I know about and have been hoping will just evaporate (see what I mean about moron).

Hi there - just read the first post on your thread and this could be me talking!! we are in the same predicament as you and have just under the same amount of debt - i will be reading with interest your thread from now on and wish you luck with your debt busting"!

Have just read all your thread beginning to end phoenixchick and what a good read! Glad your doing well with it. As someone who is suffering at work at the mo with a 'bullying' management team (thankfully, not just me, it's all of us!) how have you got on with nasty ex boss? Have they sorted your wages yet! I think someone else having a victory would cheer me up no end!
