Hi All
My Dad Has Just Upgraded His Computer And Gave Me His Old One,
All Was Working The Only Problem Was There Was No Security On It. As I Was Using Tesco As My Isp They Sent Me There Security.
Problem Being I Had To Go Online And Get My Security Code To Make There Security Work.
Since I Done This Not Only Did It Not Work But I Seem To Have A Massive Problem,i Cant Get On The Net It Keeps Saying Problem With The Modem I Have Uninstalled It.
When I Tried To Install It Again It Said Sorry No Modem Found.
Guess What Im Asking Is
1- What Can I Do About My Modem
2- What Is The Best Security To Have
Or Should I Not Worry As I Am Going On To Broadband Soon With Tesco And Dont They Sort All That Out For You ?

JUST INCASE YOU ARE WONDERING HOW IM ON THE NET NOW I AM ABUSING WORKS INTERNET.
Please Help Need To Get On Line Asap
Thank You.

With the type of issue you have it is best to post as much info as possible:ie.age, make,os system and full spec.If you do'nt know the spec. of your machine
then dload everest home, just google it.

Have you downloaded or got the correct drivers for the modem? when you re install the modem do you let it find the drivers automatically?
Is the modem on Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device manager and what is the error?

BEst security is up to your own preference there are free ones AVG virus is one that is apparently well regarded, I myself use Panda software as I find Mcafee too intrusive but it is very powerful.

If you can reply back to some of the questions we'll try and find a solution for you

I Have No Idea On Spec Or Anything Like That The Computer It Self Is About 18 Months Old. Everything Was Working Fine Until I Tried To Go On To Get This Security Set Up.
I Have One Problem I Cant Get Online At Home To Down Load This Everest Thingy. Should I Just Take It To A Computer Shop And Let Them Sort It Or Do I Get Someone Out.
I LET THE COMPUTER TRY TO FIND THE MODEM IT SELF IT JUST CAME BACK NOTHING DETECTED.

Makra so I can get the full facts can I presume you uninstalled the modem from the device manager, and are you using XP? You will need to go into the details I posted above and see if the modem is listed in the device manager.

You will also (if running XP) have an icon in the control panel saying Phone & Modem options when you double click that and click the modem tab what does it say.

Unless this is a hardware issue I wouldn't think it is necessary to get it checked out at a PC shop and even if (which I dont think it is) a hardware issue buying a modem and installing it yourself will be a lot cheaper than bringing it to a shop

PS If you are running XP you could use the System restore to roll back everything to when it was working

and if this works dont reinstall the tesco security , try another free one

I Am Running On Win 98, I Went To Control Panel Then Clicked On Modems Then Unistalled Went To Re-install Thats When It Came Back Nothing Detected Then Gave Me List Of Modems To Choose From (i Have No Idea ) On The Modem Type.
Im Sure There Is No Problem It's Self With The Modem As It Was Fine Before.

when you go thru the device manager it should tell you which modem is onboard, you can then put the correct drivers for the modem, I think this is the problem as you have put the wrong drivers for the modem you have got.

As regards as using an external modem yes you could use that but again you will need the correct driver and it may cause a conflict with the one you already have in your computer so what I would suggest is to try and find which modem is on your computer and install the correct driver. I would also remove the tesco security.

As Far As I Am Aware I Have Not Removed Any Device Managers Just Deleted The Modem Itself.could It Be A Bug That Is Causing Problems With The Software (this Is What Tesco Tech Support Said It Maybe)
Sorry For Being Stupid How Do I Find Out What Modem It Is Running On?
    The Security Never Installed.typical.
    Thanks For Your Help.

Its ok Maka your not being stupid but when you go home go to
    Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device manager

you will see all devices connected to your computer and probably a yellow triangle where the modem is, when you click on it, it should give you the name of your modem, write this down and install the correct driver for the modem, make sure you are using the WIN98 English driver. Do you have the original MODEM Installation disk??

Tesco are probably thinking that you have a virus which is stopping the installation of their software, which may be the case, but Id stay clear and use another reliable free one ie AVG
