http://www.vegsoc.org/nvw/2004/recipes/tortillas.html here it is Madge, I have got into making tortillas for the family, just flour, water, salt, a little oil. Make dough and roll as thin as you can. So I can see the print on my board!
Cook on griddle or heavy frypan. Keep wrapped in a teatowel till ready to use, otherwise they go crisp. It doesn't matter if they don't look perfect for this recipe. Only work out a couple of pence each, up to £1.49 for a pack in the supermarket. I put garlic powder and herbs in the last lot."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Can't post this week's meal plans as we're away for a long weekend and I need to do a shop when I get back !
I do love this thread though, gives me loads of ideas so ta very much ladies and gents ! :0):jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0 -
Madge, I have frozen them, but only short term, I don't think they would survive well enough to fold or roll for a s/w, as the freezer would dry them out. If I know they won't get eaten immediately, then I will freeze them. I have twice planned to freeze them, but they all got scoffed!
I get ds (14) to stand and griddle for me as I roll them out, it doesn't take long then. He is very diligent, he doesn't like flour on them, also excess flour burns on the griddle, so he has the silicon pastry brush and brushes as he goes. I have the tiimer set for 40 secs for the first side and he does the 2nd till he's happy with it.
We would have liked a bit more onion in the Tortilla bake. Sooooo easy!
Was just thinking, if you cook your own beans (I have started doing these a bag at a time in the pressure cooker and then freezing in bags), make your own tomato sauce and tortillas, this would be a really cheap meal to do. Must work it out I think!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
