yes they can just prune to keep it small ,im just waiting for the frost to pass and my plum and apple trees will be taking up residence on my patio happy gardening0

How big would all these grow? Big I assume. Anything suitable for a smallish area close to houses? Or can any be kept in check by pruning?0

I would not consider buying fruit trees from anywhere other than a garden centre.
You need to know the rootstock - otherwise you could end up with a 50 ft tree in double quick time.
You need to know if the variety is suitable for your part of the country.
You need to know what other varieties need to be planted close by to get a good crop.
Lidl and Aldi don't tell you any of this.
I do shop at Lidl, by the way ! but not for fruit trees.0 -
We, too, bought our fruit trees from garden centre and probably paid around £30 each.
At previous house/garden, we had had a cherry tree that took over most of the garden in size and we couldn't reach most of the fruit.
This time we wanted to know height and spread, buying from garden centre we knew variety, root-stock, prefered postion, whether self-fertile, and they actually fruited the first season after planting.
However, if you can't afford this and are willing to take a bit of a gamble, £3.99 is a great price, not much to lose really!0 -

Summer raspberries fruit on previous years canes, so you might get none or very few this year. Don't cut any new stems growing, they'll fruit next year. If it's an autumn variety they should fruit same year.
Don't know about blackberries, but wouldn't think it's going to be long!0 -
Thankyou

According to this link 3-4 years http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/fruit_veg_diary/fruit_veg_mini_project_march_2f_plum.aspours Ours from garden centre was already fan-trained and a bit older, we were told not to expect fruit in first year but did get some.0

With a lot of plum trees you tend to get a heavy crop one year then a very light one the next.0
