02 roaming Fiji, Australia, Thailand

My daughter is travelling for 5 months and is tied in to an 02 contract for 18 months (until April 09), £30 per month. Does anyone know of a way to reduce her liability while she's travelling? She has contacted 02 and asked if they would "suspend" the contract until she returns in July, they won't, or reduce the tariff to the lowest while she's away, again no go. Any ideas would be very gratefully received. Thanks

unfortunately a contract is exactly that - you can't vary your obligations to suit your circumstances... I'd suggest she lends the phone to someone who will make use of it responsibly while she's away then at least it's not being wasted.
