I recently bought an item from ebay normally I pay via paypal however on this occasion the seller only accepted cheques or p/o so i sent a personal cheque via regular mail, they sellers claims not to have received it and my bank says it hasn't been cashed the cheque amount was for £12.56 and the bank is saying there is a £10 charge to cancel cheques, now i dont want to pay the £10 charge but i dont want to sent another cheque (via recorded delivery this time) whilst the other cheque is still cashable.
any suggestions ?

I'm surprised at their response. Even the bank my firm is with will stop a cheque without fee if we say ithas been lost in the post and their banking service is pretty poor by any standards.0

Any chance of naming the greedy bank ? If it's the same one that I use, I'll enquire and that way we could possibly discover if it's an organisation or branch policy.0

Please let us know which bank this is! I know Nationwide cancel cheques for free when stolen, and they don't charge 8p per minute to use an 0870 number for account queries while insisting it's "national rate". They also don't "lose" money which is deposited in their cash machines and then blame the customer for fraud. That's why I left A&L.0

Had the same problem with my bank (Intelligent Finance) a cheque for £94 missing in post, but I F will charge £7.50 to stop the lost cheque, no movement with them at allDon`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0

From experience, I know Smile do not charge if a cheque is "lost" in the post. They sent a letter, received the following day, that the cheque had been "stopped" and there would be no charge made.0

Natwest have never charged for missing cheques. they will charge if you just want to cancel it for the sake of it but not if it has gone missing, i didnt even have to re issue a cheque.DFW red and green memberDoing my best to lose weight and save money0
