Seems to me if you inherited 16k and didn’t tell them then you are rightly in trouble.

If on the other hand you were distributing your late husbands estate to pay off his debts then you should be in the clear

    Exactly.

It doesn't sound as if the money was inherited as it was being used to settle the estate.

How much did you actually inherit? (ie. how much did you have that you used to buy the car & tv with?)

Beady, first of all I just wanted to say sorry to hear about your loss, I can totally understand why you "were in a bit of mess". If you haven't already you need to get some professional help and advice, go to your local Citizens Advice Bureau and make an appointment to see on of their welfare rights advisor's. Take as much paperwork as you have even if you think it is irrelevant it's suprising what a trained eye can find.

The thing is when you are depressed and grieving it's very tempting to bury you head in the sand and that's why it's really important to have someone on your side fighting with you. Good luck.

Good advice. Just to add, they are required to take into account of the claimants state of mind at teh time the alleged offence occurred. It doesn't take much imagination to imagine your state of mind. Do you have a date for teh hearing?

It should be fine, but you certainly shouldn't face it alone, as I think you are already so emotionally drained, you can't possibly expect to xope with this alone.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
  • i haven't got a hearing at the moment it has been looked at by a desion maker who said quote that he can accept that i paid of debts but because i didn't tell them they are still counting it as if i do have the money, i appealed against their desion and it has now been passed over to another desion maker who is going to look at it again, i have given them all that they have asked for included letters stating that the money was owed and who it was owed to. as for how much i was left with car cost £2100.00 and tv cost £399.00 after that they was nothing left.

If they were his debts you paid rather than yours and you only ended up with £2.5k I can’t see the appeal going against you
  • Sorry to hear of your loss beady.

How much did you inherit? Why were the debts to your family not included in the bankruptcy? If they were existing debts at the time of his death, they should have been paid directly from his estate. Likewise the funeral payment.

I'd agree with others - get yourself down to CAB and ask thier advice.

You might want to send a PM to Glad to ask her if she'll move this thread to a more appropriate board.
