I'll second that one !! :o Don't know how I've missed this thread before now - It's made me laugh this morning ! :p

My couple to add for now (cos I'm not as clever & witty as some of you :D )

When you start talking about "Uncle Martin" and friends / family ask who's that :D

When your dogs look at you as if to say .... well mum, if you'd get over your mental block for eating rabbit .... you could let us off the lead and we'd get dinner for you :rotfl:

chuccled my way through again! As for the frugal amongst you I defy ANY of you to be as frugal as Weezl!! A couple more from me...
you know when youre dfw because you are disappointed with yourself when you spend 11 on your weeks food and wonder where it went wrong...(I know - need to menu plan)
When you know the value of friendship - priceless
When you are so excited at the charity shop bargains you gave peope for Christmas that you cant help excitedly telling them how bargainous they were!
When people love the things you made them and youre chuffed because hours went into making then and alot of love (and in some cases a fair bit of screaming too!)
When you have just one cat (discovered that no cats was a step too far) who eats cheap and gets done with the help of a pdsa voucher that you werent too proud to beg for...when you gleefully accept all the reebies the vet gives you where you would have died of embarassment before...
When only having a few changes of clothes doesent really matter...
When you seriously consider unravelling hideous charity shop jumpers to knit up sommat yummy, but virtually free!
When you realise that SFW is like AA for alcoholcs and theres a thread for that too (I seriously think there is a link between alcohol and debt)!!
When you mother knows that you would, if you could, flog her at a car boot or on ebay but she doesent mind and is proud of your new frugal ways!
When getting sharpie pens and nice stationary in your stocking is exciting...

happy new year everyone! Great to see this still going!!

A few more from my holiday away to see the rellies

*you've already got this years cards and crackers at a bargain
*you spill the beans to your OH that his pressies were all (mostly) either Clubcard deals, bargainous smellies from boots which cost £6 not £45 or BOGOFFS or from charity shops
*You actually meal plan and pack for a trip away and raid your freezer for bacon, sausages etc to make sure you don't have to buy anything you *dont need*
*Kids know that putting candles on not only heats the room but also saves on leccy
*everyone charges their mobiles, laptops and camera's whist at OH's cos he won't mind a bit
*you die of almost heat exhaustion when you visit non-frugal friends who have the central heating cranked up and you find yourself enquiring about their energy costs
*after NY eve party you are bagging, freezing and sorting out food so nothing is 'spoilt' even if it is at 3am

My final shocker - which had my friends rolling in their seats when away

You decontruct several salads left over from the party -

anything edible still gets a quick refresh of cold water in the colander and put in seperate bowls its now as good as new
All tomatoes, peppers and onions are used to make a HM pasta sauce to which you add the left over cold meats
Any left over cheese is trimmed and frozen
Puddings are covered and made obvious for eating
The dips are used and mixed up to recycle the next day with all the crisps now covered in bowls or in bags
The lovely complicated dressed melon, cucumber and feta cheese salad that a lovely friend brought is seperated, washed and used up plain cos the kids prefer it and scoff the lot
All of the rest of the slightly dodgy looking veggies are stewed and with stock and whizzed into HM delicious but dont ask whats in it veggie soup

Having done this you don't all go out for a takeaway -
You make garlic bread with the leftover bit dry bread and cheesy offcuts to go with you washed salads and make pasta leftovers which feeds about 10 folk

They might well have sniggered at me - but when they were scoffing I didn't hear much complaining

I just said its all due to you lovely lot

DD announced to our family that we are DFWbe'ers and showed her cousin how to use quidco!
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
    minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:

  • *when you get annoyed that the chemist doesn't have a cheaper 'lemsip equivilant' for your winter flu
*that you save from the bin past its date food from less frugal relatives (I've had 4 bags from mum since xmas), but really you just wish they'd join you hunting for 'whoopsies'

  • when you have a small sticker on your credit/debit card(s) saying "DFW" to remind yourself :o Anyone else do this?
.... loved this idea firestronaut - might nick it!

    More to add: -
    • when the word snowball doesn't conjure up visions off wintery fun or a cocktail.
    • When you can't tell if your washings still damp or just really cold because you refuse to put the heating on.
