Ragdoll cats...price info

Hello!

I am really keen on getting a ragdoll cat (needs to be this type as I have a flat and so it cannot go outside); does anyone know what sort of price it is usual to pay for them? I have seen adverts for breeders selling them for £400...is this way over the odds? I don't mind paying if I know it's going to be a good pedigree and in good health (although it'll take me a good few months to save up!!), but I don't want to be taken for a ride...!!

Any advice hugely appreciated - thanks so much! xxx

Have never heard of a ragdoll cat before so had a quick google. They are a very pretty looking cat.:D

I appreciate some cats cannot abide being indoors if they can help it, but there are lots that love to be pampered and will happily be a house cat.

Why not visit some shelters and rehome one of the many rejected cats and kittens.

please do not get a ragdoll cat I know a lady down the road to me that has 6 of them and they are always up the vets.
They are just a unatural inbread freaky animal and people will pay hundreds just to have them which is so bizzare to me.
You dont need a ragdoll cat to keep it indoors as i know loads of people with ordinary cats that are just indoor cats.
I know the ragdoll are cute but to be honest i wouldnt waste my money or put money in breaders pockets

Lots of shelters will have cats that need to be indoor cats for various reasons - how about adopting one of these poor cats instead of supporting the breeding of genetically freaky cats?

    Hey Louise,

Yes, I know Ragdoll cats are cute and fashionable, but it is a heck of a lot of money and a waste when there are loads of lovely cats waiting for homes in rescue centres. I volunteer at an animal centre and they always have cats who prefer to stay in, they just want a comfortable bed, lots of cuddles and food/water to make them happy and they certainly don't cost £400!
  • Hey guys,

Thanks to all of you for your comments - I know I'm parading my ignorance here, but I had absolutely no idea that other cats would be OK indoors; I thought that because of their hunting instinct, they'd need to go outside.

I'll definitely go to a shelter...don't suppose anyone can recommend a good one in London...? I think Battersea have cats as well as dogs actually - but any other recommendations much appreciated.

    Thanks again xxxxx

I used to have a black british shorthair when I lived with my mum and dad and she was out and out house cat, only ever got out when she escaped!

Since she died my mum and dad said they felt an emptiness in the house so they recently treated themselves to two rescue cats which just happen to be persians, brother and sister named Willow and Garfield.

You don't have to go spending so much money on pedigree cats just so they won't go outside. You've got the right idea now, going to a rescue home and finding a cat that needs a home just as much as a ragdoll kitten would (and it'll save you a little as well)

Rescue centres may have cats that can only be indoor cats for health reasons.

Lots of cats that are FIV+ve (feline aids) are desperate for homes where they can only be indoors. They are hard to re-home to people that already have cats as the disease can be passed on to healthy animals so they tend to be stuck in rescues in relative isolation.

Where abouts are you in London?

I can recommend the Mayhew in NW London which is a fabulous centre

HAWS is wonderful too in West London (Hounslow Animal Welfare Society)

    Good luck
nothing to see here, move along...
