Unclaimed Bradford & Bingley shares

I've recently received correspondence from a company acting on behalf of Computershare. I apparently did not claim my B&B allocation before March 2004 and my 250 shares were subsequently sold. This company, Georgeson, will claim this money for me in return for a 10% + VAT (i.e. nearly £100) fee. Alternatively I can go directly to Computershare to make my claim.
Has anyone gone directly to Computershare and can they tell me what they charge? I've tried contacting Computershare but am passed around various departments, none of whom have a clue what I'm talking about.
Thanks

Ay lad but............at £1.80 per share the final dividend is 14.3p. You would have to buy them now and be on the register on 25 March to get the dividend. If the share price stays as is, the dividend alone is worth the equivalent of 8%. You'd have to have your cash in the bank for two and bit years to get a return like that!0 -
give them to charity, they're not worth much nowadays anyhow.Krusty & Phil Madoff, 1990 - 2007:

Yip i see that,ok for the short termers although fact that holding/buying shares before 25 March qualifies for dividend will be factored into the share price.( i.e keeping the share price up a bit)
For long termers, Bradford and Bingley has been a damp squid ever since it floated, bar the period when it rose to its high which was short lived.
NR dividends were much superior.
I only kept the demutalised shares hoping that they would all get taken over again as was case with woolwich, halifax etc.
I just thought i would give O/P an idea of values, if his shares were sold some time ago he may have done well on the enforced sale.
Like following poster said B+B shares not worth much, so my sentiments are the same as they were with NR shares, dont really matter if they fall more or turn to dust.

Rough price as at March 04 would have been 280p so ex div would be about £700.Nothing to see here :beer:0

Maybe B&B ripe for a takeover bid then, given the low share price?0 -

Well their would appear to be never a better time like the present, only reasons for a takeover not to occur would be other Banks not being flush for cash or other Banks hoping that B+B being the next NR.
B+B Share Price has held up, largely because its stated to have enough funds for the rest of the year.0 -

Yes, I was just wondering if Santander might think itself a suitor for B&B? They are vulnerable at the minute.0 -
The only issue with B&B is that unlike most other converted BS's is that they are still heavily dependant on their mortgages. Probably NR was much the same.
A&L stated that only 25% of their business is mortgages. I think the exposure is probably too high for someone to look at B&B until the housing market starts looking up.Nothing to see here :beer:0
