Plus.net - quota's and bit torrent use

Options
Hi,

i'm interested in plusnet's 8mb broadband service (Option 1). I'm aware quotas are unlimited between the hours of 00:00 and 08:00 for website surfing but does this apply when using bit torrent services between those hours as well? Also, would bandwidth be upto 8mb for bit torrent services between these times as well?

Any help much appreciated!

Nick.

  • it looks like 12am - 12pm is unrestricted, give 'em a ring and confirm.

You might find bit torrent very slow on option 1 even during off peak hours. It is impossible to use during peak hours (I tried it once). Saying that, one of my friends used to do p2p overnight with Plusnet so it can be done.

I guess the 8Mb you refer to is the upto 8Mb broadband speed (option 1 has a 1 Mb allowance). This speed is not related to peak and off peak hours.

This is a good example of users signing up to Plusnet and not understanding what they are actually agreeing to!

Agreed, I was glad to see the back of them.;)
  • to be fair to plusnet, they are open about their traffic management and allowances, unlike most others with ill defined 'fair' use policies. at the sub £10/month point (BTWholesale) plusnet + newnet are the best of a bad lot, though i'd always recommend paying another few quid to get a better option, another £2/week doesn't seem a lot to me for higher allowances with no throttling.

    Why?

I'm just about to set my parents up with the basic one as its all they need and seems a good price. They only want to email and do basic surfing at most a few hours a week?

Lost emails, poor speeds, slow/poor support.

Can you recommend any others? No more than £10 a month, 1Gb download limit?
  • slightly better reviews than plusnet, url=http://www.newnet.co.uk/broadband/home.php]newnet[/url]
if they have sky tv, and are in a LLU area, then for a fiver they can't go wrong by chosing sky (definitely not sky connect).
bear in mind any half decent isp will charge them a connection fee of around £40 for first time broadband.
while those of us here with a high reliance on quality broadband would avoid both plusnet and newnet, you could do far worse (tipex...) for your parent's needs they should suffice.
