Medical over and done with, I was very surprised what it involved.
The Doctor asked a few questions, he checked my reflexes, then said a decision would be made in a few weeks.
The whole thing took 10 minutes at most.
I got the impression he was in a hurry.Aiming to be debt free....but still off target0 -
My brother in law filled in my statement at the end for the first application and my mum did the second one. It was accepted because mum and BIL are the people who do most of the caring work for me as dad works and can't be there to lift me and stuff. In that case the SWP said that it's better to hear it from a carer who works with the condition all the time than a doctor who just sees me for prescriptions.
I don't know if it helped that mum is a nurse and BIL is a rehabilitation counsellor.0 -
Got my DLA result letter this morning and I was turned down, Is it possible to ask to see the Doctors report, the reason I ask is because some of the points they turned me down on were never asked, so where they got thier information from is a mystery.
Also is it worth an appeal.Aiming to be debt free....but still off target0 -
I would appeal - I was told by someone at the jobcentre that latley an awful lot are turned down automatically.
I have been fighting to get DLA since last June and am still playing the appeal game.
I saw a copy of my medical examination for incapacity benefit and cannot understand how a doctor that sees you for 15 minutes at most can decide that you are perfectly capable of sitting for over an hour without discomfort - or that you don't need help getting out of bed to go to the loo - but they decide anyway - very unfair system I think0 -
I have apart from one time always been turned down on my application for DLA.:D
You know need to ring them and tell them that you wish to appeal. They will then send you all the papers and reports they used to make the decision.
B4 I ramble on dont forget to state that you want an ORAL hearing. Far more chance of having the DLA award granted.
You need to make an appt with your GP and ask him if he will support your claim for DLA be honest open and frank with him and tell him exactly the difficulties you have and how it affects you day to day.
Now I know you may not like visiting your Dr but you will need to have supportive evidence. Or if you have a Consultant ask them.
Then you need to make an appt at your Local CAB office to see if they can offer help with your appeal. If they cannot they will be able to point you in the direction of a charity who can help you.
I can understand how difficult and fed up you must be feeling today at this decision but dont be too despondant, this is happening almost daily to someone.:D
If you think I can offer any further help feel free to PM me.:j I have a persecution complex. Everytime I pass a shoe shop they persecute me till I buy them:j0 -
Thanks very much for your help/advice.
When I opened the letter this morning I was wondering if the Doctor who visited me had listened to anything I had to say.
I know for a fact that some of the comments I made to him have been totally disregarded ie The letter states I have no trouble climbing stairs to go to bed, or the toilet when the Doctor was shown the bed on the ground floor, he was also told that the toilet was on the ground floor.
The Doctor commented on the fact that I have a dog, in the letter it states that I have no problem walking the dog.
So I shall be appealing, once again many thanks.....Aiming to be debt free....but still off target0 -
you have 4 weeks to seek an appeal but if you contact them and ask for "a statement of reasons"that gives you an extra 2 weeks, all appeals are automantically put before another decision maker to be re-assessed but that rarely gets a result,as already said an oral hearing stands the best chance of success,a very good scource of help with all benefits especially dla is to be found at www.yourable.com an excellent free forum0
