How do I make house feel warm?

I was wondering if it's possible to make a house *feel* warm.
Central heating is on from 7am till 9.30 am then not on again till 4pm till 10.30pm but the bathroom and main bedroom always feel cold.
There is no lagging in the roof (rented property) and bathroom is single storey extension on back of house. All rooms suffer from condensation and mould. I have to use moisture traps in bedroom.
Bathroom is extremely cold and offputting, (may as well bath outside)
All I want to do is make it feel a little bit nicer/warmer/friendlier.
Ideas anyone??

Hmm.... I've seen threads like this before while wandering the boards - I just can't for the life of me remember where...
Have you spoken to your landlord?
I know there are other agencies you can speak to as well. I'll have a browse round and see what I can find.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Move or complain to your land lord. You shouldn't be paying to live in a damp mouldy house.
Sorry, I know thats not very constructive.
I heat my house for 1 hour per day using the central heating and we have a coal fire downstairs. I've never had mould (probably too cold for it). Most houses have condensation on the windows in bedrooms overnight throughout winter but never so bad that you need moisture traps. Mine clears just by opening the windows in the morning. The house never feels damp.Saving for a Spinning Wheel and other random splurges : £183.500 -
Wondering if there is anything you can put on the bathroom ceiling to try and help in that room? Think you'll find that the roof on the bathroom part of the house is totally missing the necessary insulation - I know thats what the problem was with my extension. So - being my own house - when I had that bit of the roof replaced I told them "You will find the insulation is missing - I want nice thick insulation put in please". It helps a lot. Obviously thats not possible with a rented property - but thats just to explain why you probably have that problem.
Maybe there is some sort of insulating type tiles one can put on the ceiling of that room - which might at least help.0 -
Here ya go...

Somewhere in each of those threads is some advice and even links that may be of help to you.
What I'll do is to move your post across to the Housing Board which also covers rented accomodation. The regulars there should be able to help you.

moo2moo - we did complain to the council and even showed them pictures but all the landlord did was try to throw us out.
Cannot afford to move into another property. would post the whole story but its too long winded.
Lets just say it isnt anything we are doing wrong, thats what the council told us.
And yes I also open windows upstairs to clear windows every day.PinkPunkBird

What time do you get up in the morning and go out? DD gets up at 6.45, so ours comes on v early. I'm the only one left in the house by 7.45, so have the heating set to go off then. I don't leave till later, but manage on residual heat... have shower first LOL! I'm usually too busy with jobs to notice.
Curtains at the doors can make a huge difference, as can 'sausage' draught excluders. Problem is, if you exclude all the draughts, it doesn't help the damp!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
