Renting in London

Where in your opinion will be the best place for her to look? I would rather she pays a little more but the work is quicker to reach by tube e.g 30 mins is not too bad. Maximum budget is £500 a month for a room, I am sure she should be able to find something decent in a shared house.
Thanks for your advice.0 -
@Marylee
Term time is over for undergraduate students in London. Your daughter should be able to find cheap temporary student accommodation managed by the college authorities. These places are often let to conference delegates, overseas students or staff in need. Once installed in a temporary base your daughter can research the accomodation herself in surrounding areas served by good transport links and see at first hand what you can get. Perhaps more useful pointers can be found by asking the staff/students/accomodation authorities in person.
The trouble with Loot is that everybody reads it and anything worthwhile is snapped up in an instant. The dross is often what is left. Local papers and local estate agents might be worthy of closer inspection. Often to access these oppertunities you have to be locally based.

I know a few people that rent rooms to young professionals in the Camden and Finsbury Park areas which are in Zone 2. They charge in your price range. Just PM me for their details.0

To rent in Finchley, a 2 bed flat is £180 per week upwards. With two people sharing that would easily be within your price range of £500 per month each. If you pm me, I will put you in touch with the agent who deals with my flats - a very nice chap.
To buy a two bed flat in Finchley, you are looking at £200k ++No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I too work in bloomsbury. I also reccomend moveflat.com - excellent non/minimal profit website. Theres loads of adds in your price range on there.
As for location - good transport links are a must really.
general rule is that the further west you go the nicer it gets. In your price range look at
islington/highbury - close to bars etc on upper street, won't get much for your money;
stoke newington - cheaper but may have to rely on buses as generally further to tube;
finsbury park/holloway rd - lively, lots of kabab shops, good transport.
Further out is turnpike lane and wood green. good local shops and transport links. multicutral. can be quite intimidating to go out at night.
On the northern line look at kentish town, archway, highgate and finchley - the latter being a nice safe best.0
