  • at least the lexus dealers seem happy to tkae your cash, merc seem unhappy to take it,its as if its an inconvenience for merc.
as others have said mercs are nowhere near what they used to be,if you look closely at an old merc that has been looked after you will struggle to find any faults,my mate has a 230 clk convertible its rusting really badly considering its only 6 years old, dash display doesnt read properly.
really poor quality considering price new.
friends mum had a slk only 5 years old, sold it as it would need welding at next MOT!

Got an advisory, did they ? ;)

Merc C-class is a poor car. Built down to a budget. Not sure about the new model, but I was seriously unimpressed when I tried a late old shape out.

Now if you could find a NEWER E-class for the same money OR LESS (which you should be able to do), then I would consider that.

First year depreciation is massive. Not too bad after that and if you whip the badge off a low-spec model, only the Merc enthusiast will know (unless you get one with plastic wheel trims!!)

PS I drive a Nissan X-Trail :o - nearly got a 1 year old E-Class but someone bought it from under my nose at Motorpoint

    Go for the Lexus. Reasons:

    (1) It's still in warranty/has a sizeable chunk of warranty left.

    (2) Merc is poor quality as others have said and the dealers can be very patchy. The problem is compounded by the fact that either Merc or one dealer group will own all the franchises in your area and if the senior roving tech is useless in one branch then he's the useless one in all of their group branches.

    (3) Up until last year my dad WAS a Merc customer for over 35 years. Not anymore.

    (4) Mercedes goodwill is non-existent for private purchasers.

I'd avoid the dealers! Of course they're 'friendly' - you pay them enough!

    Find a good independent :D

I know what you mean, but it is the general Merc dealers attitude, that I should have said, similar to post above!!

& the independent service choice would usually be a good route to take, but I'd not expect to see anything other than a main dealer stamp in the service book, on a vehicle as young as this.

It'd be a false economy to loose the value this brings. Especially on the Lexus brand.

Oh not the stamp thing please!

That is so old hat - sorry.

Dealership servicing generally speaking, is very poor. One or two 'technicians' in the workshop, whilst the youngsters, many of whom don't give a damn, are servicing your 'baby'!

Yey for BMWs! Go for a diesel and you'll get the right feeling when you put your foot down. :)

Their diesel cars are fab. Clarkson just put the 1 series coupe as the best car they've made in ages too :o

And their aftersales is good too.
