The house we're in now took just over four months from offer to completion and we never had either a sold sign outside or sold on rightmove, it just stayed as if it was for sale. We had a friend call the agents for a viewing and they were told it was SSTC and no more viewings were being taken.

We even asked the vendor on another visit to the property if they had objected to a sold board but they said they too had asked for one as they were sick of neighbours keep sympathising on their lack of interest!

So I think it could well be lazy estate agents, the only way to be sure is, as others have said get a friend to enquire about the property.
  • got someone to call (my mum) and they said it was sstc, so that was a relief, then the estate agent called me about 10 minutes later telling me it was all off the market etc. maybe she guessed what I had done? either way as people said it was the estate agents being slow/lazy
  • The only logical reason I can think of that an estate agent would purposely keep a property listed as still for sale is to get potential buyers onto their books and then offer to show them around something similar.

They will say something like: “unfortunately that property has just gone under offer, this type of property tends to sell very quickly, would you like for me to take down your details and ring you as soon as a similar property comes onto our books?” You then tend to be bombarded with phone calls every time a new property comes onto there books.

It’s an old trick when theirs a lack of buyers, did they say something similar to your mum?
