    Welcome CheapyT.

Have read what is, for you, probably the most important thread on the site?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Cheapy besides going for package reduction, there is/was a telephone package that they dont advertise, The 5p Talk Plan, it used to cost £2 on top of the standard line rental for 3-2-1.

But since they increased the rental to £10.50 it is now free and gives 5p per off peak calls up to an hour, plus calls to Ireland and the US at 2p/min 24/7.

Also you might consider ditching the second telephone line and going for broadband. The cost of your second line and dial up calls might be similar to that of the cheapest broadband package, and you will always be online without affecting the telephone. Its a pity you have missed the bradband for £9.99 offer which would have def been cheaper.

I notice NTL are offering Family pack at half-price for six months for existing customers on their website:
    http://www.home.ntl.com/page/existing_fampackoffer

Has anyone had any luck getting this if they are already on Family pack? Currently have 1MB BB at £99, landline and family pack - £39.99 a month but is it possible to get this discount as well by making the call?

    Many thanks

  • Hi all

I have a bit of a result. I called cancellations and said i am paying way to much a month and I have managed to get them to give me the 2 additional lines for free for however long i stay with them. (A saving of £30 a month) I also have got rid of the additional line. (a saving of £7.50 a month)
I am thinking of staying with AOL silver and going for broadband at £20 a month. Which is slightly expensive but i was told that going for NTL, they make charges after we download over our limit . Can anyone confirm?
In the new year i am going to ask for an additional box for another room in the house. i will pay the installation (if i have to) but i will definatley try and get the additional box for free.
This website is fantastic i have made a saving of £420 a year!

    Yippee

Not sure if they will charge at the next level, prevent use,or do nothing but issue a warning. There is a 3gig limit on 1Meg Broadband at £17.99, 2Meg costs an extra £7 and has a 30Gig limitDetails http://www.home.ntl.com/icat/broadband

    Quote from conditions.
"In the event that you exceed the usage allowances applicable to your Internet Services, we reserve the right (at our sole discretion) to reduce, suspend or terminate your Internet Services. During any period of reduction or suspension, you will remain liable for the payment of your Internet Services charges at the original level. We also reserve the right (at our sole discretion) to re-grade your Internet Services to a different speed and/or usage allowance at the appropriate charge.

The following tables (which will be updated from time to time) set out the download speed, monthly usage allowance and price for ntl's Broadband Internet Services and ntl's Freedom Internet Services:

    Broadband Internet Service

    (download speed)Monthly Usage Allowance

    (downstream &/or upstream)Monthly Price1Mb3GB£17.99*2Mb30GB£24.993Mb30GB£37.99

*Customers accessing Broadband Internet Services via the black PACE Set-Top-Box are limited to 1Mb download speeds due to equipment limitations. A usage allowance of 30GB per month is provided for customers with this equipment. These Broadband Internet customers can contact ntl customer services to arrange for a Set-Top-Box upgrade."
