is the phone numer a business number (or local rate) or a high rate number, they could be making money out of you that way. Would it be a scam if they bought the debt for a 1p and then made profits off the phone calls?June 2005 = 48K of Debt

has on hold for half an hour then hung upYou be lucky:T0 -
Just don't phone them back-they have received your letter, they are obliged to put any action on hold while the debt is disputed by you (ie. you have asked them prove that you owe money to anyone, how much and what for) and it's up to them to do this now. Be very firm with them if they get through to you by phone about only communicating in writing, do not debate it with them. Why should you spend money on phone calls to make them do something they are legally obliged to do anyway (tell you why it owed and give you the details).

not bad if you can do it, is it!
Here goes:
Buy up a nearly 6 year old debt for 10p in the pound = £50
time +5% = £52.50
Overheads +10% = £57.70
Total cost to them £57.70
Sit back and wait for the phone calls
40 min @ £2 - providers cut =£40
30 min @ £4 - providers cut =£60
income =£100
expenditure =£57.70
profit =£43.30 + Anything thats paid off
I've made these figures up but you can see the principle behind it!!!!

Now i dont want anyone around my house, my g/f is 6 months, and i have not showed her this letter yet as she will worry. Should i just ring the numbers and get this over with? its getting to a stage were im starting to lose sleep over this now!
I need some advise pleaseYou be lucky:T0 -
Have they actually sent you any proof that you really do owe this money?
If you sent the letter above by Tine then what has been AIC's response?
I would report them to OFT if they have not complied with your request. Otherwise anybody could send you letters for debts you don't actually owe.
Try not to panic, I know that's easier said than done, but again they are trying to scare you.
What are they going to do if they were to come to see you?
They can only ask you to pay, they can't frogmarch you off to the bank or seize your goods. I would laugh at them tbh ( well no I would give them a right old mouth-full actually ).
They are trying their hardest to scare you, it's called bullying and they are just going to prey on your fear.
