  • Don't see how Virgin could possibly find out the name of the account at another institution - it would be contrary to the Data Protection Act surely? Maybe they are just trying it on with you.

    Because it was an electronic payment and nobody at Abbey bothered to check. You can use this to your advantage to lean on Abbey to refund, and make sure that someone has not opened an account in your name for fraudelent purposes.
    NB Make sure that you are getting all expected mail incase they have redirected your post.
