just checked my account online and there is a balance transfer for £ 275 to an abbey account in surrey , who i dont bank with and i aint from surrey , have phoned virgin and been assured that it will be put back within seven days ... once their csi team have looked into it , how common is this ..anyone know

update 15th aug

money is still not transferred back into my account , recieved a letter dated 21st july stating that i would recieve a full response within 5 working days ,,,, still waiting .

just tried to paymy card online and it tells me due to the status of my account my "maintain your account features " have been suspended .

just off phone from virgin , your details have just been passed to us today , how can we help . (fraud dept) . first reported this on 20 th july and have been on the phone to them about 6 times since , the guy i spoke to today told me they would have to cancel my card as someone obviously has my details and issue a new one . i asked them that question 20th july only to be told ,no ,no need to do that sir .

how can one guy send me a letter ensuring i recieve a response within 5 working days from 21st july and then be told on the 15th aug , we only recieved your details today .

customer service an absolute joke .

This happened to me a few weeks ago when I gave my card in a restaurant and a week later there was a £200 charge to another restaurant I had never haeard of - my fault really I allowed them to take the card which was obviously when they scammed it. Nationwide were great though and was all sorted pretty quickly I wouldnt worry too much about it.

    bump.............
  • They may have had their machine hooked up to a copier that copied your card?
Another scam is that they print a normal receipt out for you and you don’t get a credit card receipt.
They say the machine has broken down and take your money from the credit card, but give you a normal receipt.
Your out with your wife and don’t suspect anything because your enjoying yourself.
Best tip is to withdraw the cash from the machine first, I know you pay interest? But it’s better than having your card cleaned out.
They cannot clone your card if you dont give it to them can they?
I'm not poor i'm just skint

You would think so but someone cloned my capital one card two weeks ago and used it for £245 car insurance (plus some other transactions at £10-ish each). How stupid is that? Surely they'll have to have given their address, car registration etc...

Honestly, you just can't get the calibre of criminal these days.

Capital One have been great actually, they cancelled my card immediately and I had a new one (with new number) within 3 days. Make sure Virgin do the same!

i have only ever used the card for 3 balance transfers , never been used for anything else , so they could not have cloned my card .?
  • Sounds to me like someone has used some random generating card numbers software which is available on the net if you know where to look!
First 4-6 digits just identify bank and type of card the software then generates numbers until they strike lucky.
