I've booked into have a vasectomy in a couple of weeks time - althought I don't actually know anyone else who has had it done and can't say I'm looking forward to it!
Can anyone share their experiences including not only the procedure itself, but also how long it takes for any discomfort to wear off?
Thanks.

You'l be surprised how many mse'rs have had this done.
My hubby was booked in for a vasectomy this wednesday but nerves have got the better of him and he's cancelled it.
Someone with experience of this will be along and answeryour questions soon i'm sure.
Good luck xxIf everyone cared and nobody cried, if everyone loved and nobody lied, if everyone shared and swallowed their pride then we'd see the day when nobody died.

My husband had it done 2 or 3 years ago, the best decision we have ever made. He was nervous, so I went with him. He went into the room, like a GP's room rather than hospital room, he had to lie down with his legs tight together pushing everything upwards so to speak. He was given a local anaesthetic and after it had taken effect he had two tiny cuts and a probe thingy was inserted to 'do the deed'. In total it took no more than 20 mins. He was told to have supportive underwear, but he just wore trunks. He just had a small pad type dressing on it. I took him for a coffee on the way home at his request. He was told to take painkillers for a couple of days, but he felt bruised and uncomfortable rather than in severe pain. He was told to abstain from any 'action' for a few days, but things were in full working order very quickly. He had been scared by horror stories from some of his colleagues, but I think things have changed quite a bit in recent years. He says he would recommend it to anyone. Good luck.0

DH had this done about 12 years ago. He said that for a few days it felt as though he had had a football whacked into his googlies - not having experienced this pain I don't know what he means but friends who have had it done seem to completely understand what he means
He wore two pairs of pants for a couple of days but having had it done about 6pm on a Thursday evening he worked on the Friday as he was too embarrassed to say he had had it done :rotfl: :rotfl:
Everything was back in working order very quickly and it took just a couple of months to produce non-swimmers. From a woman's perspective, there is no difference at all!0 -
I had the "snip" last november, I won't tell you about the procedure it's easier to google it.
Take a couple of pair of undies as you will be covered in iodine.
The last thing you feel is a little scratch in your scrotum to numb the area, honestly that it the only thing you feel.
Afterwards the Dr advised me to rest and put my feet up ie go to bed for 2/3 days, the longer you rest the less problems you might get in the future.
Mine was done on a friday, so stayed in bed til sat night, you feel fine when lying down, but when standing up for couple of hours you just get a dull ache at the back of your pubic bone, but after 3 days you can do most things just when you get tired the dull ache returns, so rest. no problem at all by a week.
To be honest the worst is your hair growing back after your shaved. no brazilian for me!!!!
good luck you'll be fine
P.s don't believe scare stories on internet, millions of blokes have had it done so sods law someone has had bad experience.0 -
DH had it done in July last year. It took about 20 mins and I think I was more worried than him. He took it easy for a couple of days - I also made sure that the kids kept out of his way. He was bruised quite badly for about a week but he said the pain was fine and didn't take any other painkiller after a couple of days. He was back riding his bike to work within a fortnight. So little money - so much time :mad:0

DH had his done last November.
We were both surprised about how painful it was after the procedure. Once the GA had worn off he knew all about it, and I felt terrible seeing him in all that pain, so my advise would be to not be scared about taking painkillers. He was pretty bruised and swollen for about a week after that. He had it done on the Friday, took it easy over the weekend and then resumed light duties at work the following week.
What did surprise me though, was that you are not sterile immediately after the procedure. Four months later, we are still having to worry about birth control  .0 -
I had mine done last year, and it was a doddle, went with Marie Stopes, procedure took about 15mins, worst bit was realising that the burning smell was me!!!!. Was back at work next day, and back on the job in 3 days. Oh and have some fun clearing the pipes, until your tests come back totally clear. My surgeon advised that it would take between 18-30 emissions to clear the swimmers.0
