Postage discounts

Hi Folks!

I sold 2 items to one buyer on BIN this afternoon.
It seems that my buyer was unable to pay for them together so I received 2 payments from Paypal.
On one the postage shows as £2.00 then a seller discount of £2.00 so they are getting free P+P.
I do not offer automatic P+P discounts as I would rather buyer contacted me as my items are all different sizes and weights.

My question is ,did the buyer put in -£2.00 discount themselves?
How would that show up?

Here is what it says on Paypal
Postage & Packing via Royal Mail 1st Class Standard to SA1XX:
(includes any seller packing fees)£2.00 GBP
Postage Compensation (not offered):--
Seller Discounts (-) or Charges (+):(seller discounts, services, etc.)-£2.00 GBPgreyline.gif
Total:£3.99 GBP
I have checked my preferences and there are no discounts set up.

On the item in question I had 3 listed and had £2.00 for first and £1.25 for subsequent items.
The second item that the buyer bought was £2.00 P+P so I would have charged £1.25 P+P for this when bought with the other item.

As it is I will be out of pocket as it will cost over £2.00 to post both items.

it looks like your buyer has given themselves a £2 discount to me!

i would either refund the payment and send an invoice for what they should have paid

or just send them an invoice/paypal money request for the difference they owe you

I suppose it could be a mistake?????

I think I will message them saying it looks like they made a mistake!

    Hope they don't get stroppy!

  • It seems like your preferences must be set to allow buyers to edit invoices.

    Yes it seems so!

Think I will take that off!;)

I have decided to use 2nd hand jiffy bag and send 2nd class!

I thought a message just sounded petty (I tried composing one!) so I can break even this way.

If I use Paypal postage does it show 1st or 2nd class?

You could refund both payments then send a revised invoice for the 2 items, including any postage discount you might want to offer
  • I would do the same as what scbk suggests, Giving yourself a discount isnt fair so i wouldnt let them have it! lol

  • i definately wouldnt let them get away with this, refund and send a new invoice. remember we dont have to bend over backwards to keep buyers happy until may!

can you send items second class when using paypal postage? i always just get a price for 1st class and havent figured out a way to change it.

i only send 1st class but i've never seen an option for 2nd class on paypal postage
  • i have had buyers try to get away with adding sneaky discounts.. so i just refund their money and send them another invoice

I also would just return the payment and say that they appear to have made a mistake, and then resend an invoice.
