Our local "scrap yard" pays you now. We took a old bmw up there D reg and just got over £100 for it. (£90 per tonne)
Not sure if any other company pays you but our local scrap place did
No wonder people will come and pick up scrap cars for free when they get a good price. We
Got a end of life certificate from the place too.0 -
Put your old motor at a starting bid of 99p on eBay, watch the bids grow when people buy it for spares.0

I used Scrap Car UK in February this year after my J reg Peugeot decided it was time to go to the great scrap heap in the sky.
Unfortunately I did not have such a good service from Scrapcaruk as it must depend on what part of the country you are in as to what type of service you get. The car was parked outside my parent's house. I completed the online form the day after it went bang (it went bang on a Sunday) and got a phonecall within a couple of hours telling me that somebody from a company in York would get in touch with me. 48 hours passed and nobody had done so I got in touch with Scrapcaruk again who said that they would ring him again and get him to ring me directly. Still no contact. Finally on the Thursday I got a phonecall to say that the car would be collected that day and that if I leave the log book in the glove compartment they would make sure the DVLA were notified of the car being scrapped - it also claimed this on the website.
Car went off, and I forgot all about it - didn't twig that they hadn't left me anything as I hadn't scrapped a car before. I of course cashed in my car tax as there was £80 worth left on it!
I then got a lovely letter from the DVLA saying that the car had been untaxed since February and if I didn't pay £40 by the end of the month I would be fined heavily! I rang them and explained and they said that there was a part of the log book that they needed, and never the less, I still had to pay the £40. I then got in touch with scrap car uk who said that the company that they used had been taken over and they didn't have any record of my car being scrapped!
Sorry to rant, I just really wouldn't recommend the company to anyone, and would much rather have got my 2 bob giving it to a local scrap company who I know pay well for cars - I just thought I was doing the right thing for the environment!!!

As the owner of scrapcar I felt obliged to answer the post above and any other comments made throughout the web, good or bad. For those in the know of how websites/servers work, will understand that when we see hits coming from third party websites like this one. It prompts us to investigate why a traffic increase occurs, this is why I am here in our defense.
Firstly I will admit in the early days of our business we struggled to find licenced operators that were reliable and honest to work with and unfortunately we encountered the opposite to this type of person as does every business.
This has been ironed out and we have a new state of the art database with multiple ways to make contact with our staff as to make each scrap request as smooth as possible. We are very proud of a majority of our collection times although some highland areas are still causing headaches. Major cities are covered in multitude. I am very sad to find this went wrong and disappointed I was not informed. However our target is 48 hours and it looks like we achieved this as in the case above.
Which leads me to your real gripe. When a car is collected and disposed of, we as a company inform the DVLA by electronic means that a car needs to be de-registered. We make it quite clear on our website that you must do this also. Failure to notify the DVLA that your vehicle is SORN or scrapped will result in a possible fine.

People find this out the hard way on most occasions, and in our defense we cannot be held responsible.
As to the comments of our company being taken over. We have always been the same and although we have a new system/database it is still possible to trace retrieve a car from the old one. That said if you email us your details we can supply you with a certificate that you can present to the DVLA and they will inturn forfeit the fine demand in most cases. The moral of the strory to avoid any problems later is always notify the DVLA personally, we will also do that and the twain will meet and the case will be closed.

He got £160 for car, £40 for wheels and I think it was £40 for The cat
