in Credit cards
I've just opened an account with HSBC, and have heard some fairly good things about their policies regarding lending; is it true that if your account is conducted fairly well, they might consider you for a card regardless of what the credit reference agencies say?
I know that the gent who opened my account mentioned that after three months of my salary going in I could apply for a credit card, Maestro card, overdraft etc, but I just want to know about anyone else's experiences and whether this is actually true.

I was refused by a few companies but hsbc were happy to give me a credit card when i asked. Started off with a £500 limit, upped it to £1500 a few months later.0

has this happened to anyone else as well? what do you need to do on your current account for this to happen?0

Would be based on how you operate the account I'd say - they'd be looking at regular payments in (salary), the balance on the account, the outgoings and whether you ever go into overdraft or incur a charge for a failed DD etc."A child of five could understand this. I think HSBC have traditionally placed more weight on how existing customers have managed their current HSBC products then what the credit reference agencies say than most financial institutions.

Mainly comes down to your behavioural score (HSBC's method of credit scoring). If your score is decent then often a credit search won't be done.0

I went in branch today to ask, actually, and they said after 3 months of salary going in (which will include a hefty bonus which will enable me to keep my current account in credit permanently (hopefully)) I would be considered for a Maestro card, and that they might then be able to look at my borrowing needs (which was confirmed as possibly being a credit card).
Very nice to see a company which does go on past dealings rather than Experian, a very refreshing change.0 -
i opened a hsbc card recently and got 4k limit even tho i'd be rejected for 2 cards prior to that (amex and britannia) i do have a current account with hsbc, but only pay in 250 a month which then goes straight into their regular saver0

i know that a lot of people have had problems with hsbc, but as a general rule I have never had (touch wood) any issues with them (aside of the fact that the counter service at my local branch is always closed for training no matter when I go in)0 -
