How many jobs could the government create by investing £25bn of taxpayers money in other areas of the economy? Far more than the paltry 6,000 employed by NR. That's over £4m of our money per job. Workers in other failed British companies can only drop their jaws in total amazement.
The annual net interest from the taxpayer's investment is £160,000 per employee compared to an average NR wage of around £25,000.
The main reason why the government will keep NR going is to keep the final bill from the taxpayer until after the next election. I gather that they have been trying to keep MPs from finding out the bill to the taxpayer on the grounds that such information would be detrimental to NR as a commercial organisation.
I'd love to know where you got your info from - my OH, his colleagues and managers don't earn nearly that much...0 -

( Perhaps the stated average NR wage covers the levels from very top -very bottom. )
That sounds much more like it0 -

I noticed today job ad on window of Nationwide Branch, salary range was late 11000s - late 14000s, says package worth 19000.
My local Nationwide Branch seems to employ mostly part timers, all the cashiers/customer advisors say they only come in for a few days when i mention that ive not seen them before.0 -
My OH doesn't work in a branch, he works in one of the big offices
Edited to clarify - My OH works fro Northern Rock, not Nationwide, and certainly earns nothing near 25K. I wish he did0 -

I like the “CREDIT CRUNCH” one in particular.
“The “Free Helicopter” of course referring to Ben Bernanke commenting in 2002 that he would drop dollar notes from a helicopter if necessary in order to keep the US economy going.0
