Blf is probably right that a £25K NR average is an over-estimate. Which further reinforces the argument that these jobs are not worth protecting at such a cost.0 -
Bit off topic, nice to see u posting again in savings section BB, :T Since Xmas/New Year period, u dont seem to have been about as much as you was in 2007.0

The government has just failed - thanks to the House of Lords - to keep NR's future figures from the public and parliament.
Guardian
"A Liberal Democrat amendment for a provision requiring the Bank of England to carry out an audit of the bank within three months of it coming into public ownership - and thereafter at least annually - was passed by 154 votes to 142 after winning support from the Tories."
So much for Gordon's new style of "open government" :rotfl:0 -

There's an out-and-out lie at the core of the Crock - http://ftalphaville.ft.com/blog/2007/10/08/7902/the-uncharitable-core-of-northern-rock/
Granite, the immense, £50bn synthetic financial structure upon which the the stricken mortgage bank is perched, is itself balanced on a charity, the Down’s Syndrome Association North East (UK). The charity has denied it has ever given consent to be used as beneficiary.
So there you have, £100 BILLION of our money being staked on a financial house of cards that is proven to rest on falsified documents.
Anyone expect to see the £3000 that Gordon Brown has stolen from each of us ever again?0 -

It's my understanding that they don't have to (legally). And anyway, it would be a bit pointless as no monies would be going to them. These SPVs are simply another one of the many financial devices that all(?) banks resort to nowadays. I had to laugh though when an article referred to "Dollarite" rather than Dolerite - geology obviously not one of the author's strong points.amcluesent wrote: »So there you have, £100 BILLION of our money being staked on a financial house of cards
"house of cards" is seeming more and more appropriate as time goes on. It will be interesting to see what happens re the monoline bond insurers...Imprudent granting of credit is bound to prove just as ruinous to a bank as to any other merchant.
