I know the search function on MSE is not working at the moment, but if you look back over the past days threads there is an explanation of why this happens. If I can locate the thread I'll bump it for you.

Basically though no terms like as new' 'like new' 'nearly new' are allowed. People searching for new in the title should not be able to pick up your item, so avoid thosse terms and you can safely relist. Something is either new or used, there is nothing in between on ebay.

    thanks soolin,
i get why they are doing it,but i could have listed new and the buyer would be none the wiser,i was just trying to be honest.
im sure ive done it before with as new.
do they want an honest descriptions or bull****.
the search engine should be able to ignore AS NEW when searching for NEW.
not really a big deal, but aggravating just the same,i had 4 watchers in the few hours it was up they have been told the item is closed.
well why dont they send an email and tell you to change it or they will remove it.
cheeky bleeders, you would think they were lining my pockets not the other way round.
    rant over........

That's not how ebay operates - make sure the rest of your house is in order or you can guarantee someone will report you and it will happen again.

how do you put your house in order if you dont know you have made a mistake by being honest or genuine?
i can understand some things being against the rules but as new is a sales term used for as long as i can remember,if they cant get round it by adjusting there search engine then it should be there problem and not my loss.
  • There's nothing wrong with their search engine in this respect, it's just that Ebay users are to lazy to use it properly to find new items so they get upset if they put NEW in the description and it picks up items that are not quite new.

did someone complain about this or did ebay pick up on it?
  • In respect of your listing I'm not sure, realistically if "As New" etc. are not allowed in the title then Ebay should be able to scan for them and remove them all, but as there are over 10000 currently listed then I would suspect someone has reported your listing.

What I don't understand is why if it's such a big deal for Ebay they do not do more to prevent it, by not allowing them to be submitted as listings in the first place.

Read the rules very carefully... and for cases like this one where interpretation is tricky... I suggest hanging out in the ebay Q&A forum for a week - every possible trip-up will be mentioned, I guarantee it.

'As new' comes up on this forum about once a fortnight.

I agree with fay actually hanging around other sellers throws up the same questions over and over until we just assume everyone knows all the rules.

There are a great number of rules on ebay and it would be unrealistic to have each and every one pointed out to us before we list something. Even the warning that pops up when sellers try to list 'designer' items asking whether they are real irritates many sellers. It would be far worse to have to go through a 3 page check list to ascertain that sellers comply with each and every t and c before they list a single item.

As a buyer if I am looking for a new copy of say a CD do I really want to be bothered by all and sundry selling their old ones as 'like new'? However as a seller like new would sometimes be a handy title to use, but on balance it is not something that makes a great deal of difference to me and I can easily just list without those terms.

AS for why it was pulled, ebay do not police themselves so someone did report you.
