  • Make sure you book the Alcatraz tour either here in the UK or as soon as you get there, they can get very busy. We went in October and it got very cold at night on Pier 39.

All that way for just 2 nights or somewhere else as well?

I'd recommend doing a city tour which is a good way to see the main sights when you haven't a lot of time . We did a city tour followed by Alcatraz which I booked on THIS SITE and it was excellent. Can't see the exact tour we did , it's obviously changed , but I would think the Alcatraz + Double Decker is the equivalent tour.

Do you definitely mean $80 a night or should it be pounds? :undecided

    Ruthy,

If you want to try something different, I did the Alcatraz night tour, it brought a new perspective to it.

Chinatown at night was a fabulous experience, I was 19 and the sights and sounds left an abiding memory with me.

hiya thanks for the replys, $80 would be fantastic as we are only sleepeing there, but we could got to $100 dont mind motels etc as long as they are safe.
peoples recomendations are always better than tripadvisers

The Maxwell Hotel on Geary St is as central as you can get - just 1 block from Union Square and right next door to the Westin St Francis. It is a little past its best but is perfectly clean and comfortable. You should be able to get a room there for no more than $80. Valet parking is $20/night which is reasonable for downtown San Francisco.

As ruthy is only going to be in SF for 1 whole day and she is going to go to Alcatraz , i'm wondering whether she'd be better off staying near Fisherman's Wharf which is what I would call the touristy area and would be within walking distance to catch the ferry to Alcatraz?

Looking on TA I wonder whether the Columbus Motor Inn would be ideal :undecided

i'm off for my first time vist in April. we have booked here

    http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60713-d81177-Reviews-Nob_Hill_Motor_Inn-San_Francisco_California.html

found www.hotels.com to be equal best price with others , but you can also get 5% Quidco cashback with them .

i really want to do Alcatraz of course but cannot decide if a Day or Night tour is the way to go ?
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

Night tour is much better - less people plus you get the option of seeing parts of it you can't see on the day one.
