BM dilemma

Options
Hello all

I hope you can help with some words of wisdom onm my BM dilemma.

I know there's a thread in here about which BM is best, but can't find it

So here's my problem..............

I have a chance of getting a BM for free (spending my factfinders scanning points) and I have a choice of 2 different ones.

The first one is a Morphy Richards and the blurb on the website (not much) is as follows
Morphy Richards bread maker complete with cool touch sides and a choice of 12 settings. Makes a 1lb, 1.5lb and 2 lb loaf with a 13 hour programmable timer. Fastbake setting bakes, light, medium, dark crust and dough settings. Also makes cakes and jam. Includes measuring cup and spoon and recipe/instruction book. s.gif
The second one is a Morphy Richards also (and even less blurb on it)
Morphy Richards bread maker, simply place all the ingredients in the non-stick bread pan and the breadmaker will automatically mix, knead, prove and bake the loaf in 80 minutes. s.gif
From what I can find on the MR website the first one is a Fastbake Cooltouch and the second one is a Stainless steel fastbake.

Which one of the two is best? Now price isn't a factor as I'm spending points not pounds, but out of interest they are priced in points and pounds as follows.........

Fastbake cooltouch 6900 points, RRP £49.99 on the MR website
Stainless Steel Fastbake 9300 points, RRP £69.99 on the MR website

Advice and opinions from the BM experts on this board are very welcome and appreciated in advance.

The fastbake is one of the two top recommends by OS members.

The Cooltouch is your basic, entry-level model. Good introduction to breadmaking - I had one to start with.

I have a SS one still boxed, as I got it on offer and intended to replace my basic one with it when it wore out! It seems very similar to the Cooltouch one, though it doesn't make a 1lb loaf (which is quite tiny). And it's shiny.:D

I actually use a Russell Hobbs one, now. It makes proper bread-shaped loaves. The MR ones are tall and narrow and you have to turn them on their side to slice. The fold-down blade is a great idea, something other breadmaker manufacturers should incorporate!
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.
  • I'm actually looking on the Good Housekeeping website to see if the tried and tested section has any reviews about MR BM's
  • Having read this thread:

    Is a breadmaker worth it?

I have decided to save my pennies and wait for a panasonic instead. I've used my Mum's kenwood one for the past 2 days just to make sure that the household like the bread and have come to the conclusion that the panny will be a better bet for me.

Now I just have to figure what to spend my freebie points on within the next 3 months before they expire :rotfl:

Thankyou to everyone for their help, I appreciate it even though I have now decided not go go with my original idea :)
  • Forgot to ask, where's the best priced place at the mo to get a Panasonic SD 254?

    TYIA :)
  • Just to add my two-penneth. I have been using a MR fastbake cooltouch for two years now. I love it.

I treated myself to a Panny 254 at Christmas when it was on special on Amazon, but to be honest, I have had a couple of poor loaves and so have been going back to using the the MR as its more reliable (I am lazy and also worried about wasting more ingredients).

I have found the Panny more particular about the order ingredients were added to the bowl, I think its because the Panny seems to have a delay before it starts mixing, whereas the MR tends to kick off straight away.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

Arkonite_babe, I've had my Panasonic since 2003 and I've never had a poor loaf from it.
