Absolutely, always always backup important stuff, to dvd, external hard drive etc. Things like photos can also be emailed to yourself and stored in your e-mail account, many are big enough to store quite a few photos these days.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

Glad to here you are back up and running again.

Lesson learnt although we all forget it at times.

I store some of my DATA on my ISP's free web space in a password protected rar file.
  • Have you tried the battery trick , had a problem with my laptop not booting up caused by a build up of static on the motherboard.

Take the battery out and disconnect power , hold down the power button for 10 seconds replace battery and try to boot up.

thats not static its the cmos

Becareful doing that, if people can see the rar file, it is possible to decrypt the password (it takes time but its possible)

chances of someone doing it? who knows.

Still i think the best option here is to sign up (for free) to humyo, they have updated it, that it appears as a drive letter , and you can back for free 25 or 26gb.

  • Not static or cmos, it's a crappy hibernate/suspend, holding down the power button for 6 secs does the same thing
