I have, for the last 2x, I like to see their face light up a little. even when its only 2 Pounds. But bringing 10 crates upto the first floor must'st be easy.0

My tesco delivery man is actually the father of my ex sister inlaw (gets complicated) and always gives the kids a pound each when he drops the shopping off. That's the sort of tip I like!!!!
But no i've never tipped them - I'm tight like that."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
He might well be the regular guy for that route and so be fairly sure he hadn't delivered to yours before.
I'm sure EVERY person in a service industry type job HOPES for a tip... though some companies have a policy of telling their employees not to accept them, usually on the grounds that they already get paid for doing the job etc. For the company it's good PR.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I wouldn't give him a tip, its not like hes a Saturday boy earning pennys. I bet hes gets paid more than me  (not really that hard thinking about it).I remember when this was just a little website! :money:0

I think it's because he doesn't recognise your name/address and they have something on your paperwork. I had had Tescos deliver to me but then put in an order in Mr TM's name to take advantage of better money off codes. When the man delivered he said that he remembered me from before but it said on his paperwork that it was a 'first' delivery. It's probably to make sure they go through everything with a 'home delivery virgin' - checking paperwork, items not there or substituted and collection of carrier bags etc.
I never tip my drivers either.0 -
I don't tip. I think when they know you're new they go through the replacement product thingy in detail. I feel mean now for not tipping. But not mean enough to do it!!0

I never tip, there's always something wrong with my shopping. The only ones I would feel inclined to tip is Ocado's drivers who have always been courteous and informative unlike certain other drivers - tesco not telling me about the substitutions and them being hidden in with the normal shopping. But I'm so skint from buying from waitrose I can't afford it!0

I work for sainsburys pt and sometimes help out on the sainsburys to you dept. As far as I know you shouldnt tip the drivers and they certainly are not allowed to accept them.
Once someone made us a cake and we couldnt even accept that - gutted! There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0 -
It's NOT because he's expecting a tip.
The first time I used tesco.com the delivery man asked me the same question. It's just because they go through everything with you if you are new. They tell you what they do, what to check, what to do with the bags etc.
They are very nice and helpful.

They aren't supposed to accept tips, it's against Tesco policy.
I have tesco delivery every week and never tip, but I do smile and make an effort to be friendly.
I offered a tip when we have a big delivery on 23 Dec, and was told they weren't allowed to accept them for themselves, but it would go in charity tin.
some of the guys are great and will help, some not at all. I put a note in the special instructions bit saying I have a disability and can't lift, but some of the drivers don't seem to have paid any attention to it !
