Why should some people get tips for doing a job for which they are already being paid? I don't get tips for doing my job. . . .do any of you????

I don't get tips - I'm a teacher! Maybe I should leave a little tin on my desk and hover at the door when the bell goes looking hopeful...

I've never tipped the Tesco delivery drivers and I think it would be kind of weird. I would hate this country to get into the tipping culture you see in the US - much better to have people paid a decent wage to start with.

Would you tip the checkout operator?

    Of course not!
    Nice to save.

The only person I tip is my hairdresser - I know she isn't paid much, she's getting married soon and she does a good job. I wouldn't tip if the owner of the salon did my hair - he earns enough already. :)

I would tip in a restaurant, but never go out to eat, really. I wouldn't want to get so you feel obliged to tip everyone. I think you tip appropriately, when someone has done a good job or gone out of their way. Years ago my next door neighbour used to sellotape a tip onto her bin liners (about 25-50p) because she used to get them to take all her garden rubbish. This was in the days when they weren't meant to and it was pre-recycling. Everyone was happy then :)

Totally agree. I don't tip anywhere except restaurant and then only if I was really happy with service etc. I don't tip my hairdresser, he's the owner and loaded but I buy him a pressie at Xmas and his b/day.

i only tip cab drivers and my hairdresser.Weird ive never considered why i do that till now? Hmm..

As someone has already said Tesco company policy tells us we are not allowed to accept tips of any sort.. infact it can lead to disciplinary!

    Taken from our handbook:

"Can i accept tips or gifts from customers/suppliers/contractors? - No. If you accept gifts, this will lead to disciplinary action."
  • It seems that I did the right thing then - he will get a smile, a cheery wave and nothing more

    plastic bags:
Tesco /Sains online seem to use loads of them, much more that one would normally use!
don't chuck them, save them till next delivery and give them back to the delivery guy to be recycled.
I don't have anywhere to keep them in the house, so bundle them up in one bag and keep them at the end of the garden. It doesn't matter if they get a bit wet.
