Want to move house to another town.. how to go about it.

I'm wanting to move out of the town I live in to another area. How do I find out which areas are decent? I rent at the moment and want another property to rent.

Any advice ect would be appreciated. :)

You can do a mutual exchange if you rent from a council or housing association. If you are with either of these landlords then ring them up for more advice. You can find exchanges through the internet.

  • Unfortunatly, I've checked the home swap website out and there's no tenants who want to move to the area I live in.

I can't move too far out of the town I live; 20 miles at most. My oh has to be able to get to work and I need to get to uni.
  • best thing is just to ask around about the areas, there is a site u can check stats on post codes and that which helps (and would help even more if i could remember the name lol - is it upmystreet or something?). If you only want to live 20 miles away u should be able to check out areas pretty easy :) so id not worry too much. its when ur moving long distance its harder. good luck :)

if you are looking for an exchange there is adtrader or freeads .the site upmystreet gives you a little bit of an idea other than that i think i would go out to a place 2 or 3 times might give you a general idea of what the place is like.what about putting in for a transfer? put an ad in the local postoffice you would like to go (ours has always got exchanges).
  • upmystreet is a  great websites...tells u all about a neighbourhood... my wife swore by it...when e moved from bristol to york...good luck

Don't know what area you live in, but in my area we have what is called a Property Shop. Ask your local council about this. You register, then if you see anything that you fancy you can bid for it. You can call in at the property shop or check out the properties online.
  • If I'd seen up my street a few years ago I probably wouldn't of bought my house lol.

If you join Homeswapper then you will automatically get any matches when they become available. Also you can check areas on Upmystreet and when you find a nice area you like then you can search for swaps within that area on Homeswapper.

    http://www.homeswapper.co.uk cost 6.95 i think

http://www.exchangeforum.co.uk -free unless you pay fr a premier account

http://www.gumtree.com- free for a basic advert which is as good as any.

Also try your own landlord and local council as well as your local free-ads.Advertise in the local paper of where you want to go.

These websites are good but you have to visit them frequently. Gum tree is a cheap way but you have to repost your ad often.
Dont assume no-one will want your house because of the area. There are so many different reasons why people need to move and if you dont try you wont know. Good luck , keep trying.Nothing ventured nothing gained.
I am going through a similiar thing and am suprised at whats being offered.
